Enhancing photosynthesis is considered one of the most rational strategies to increase crop yield. However, dominant physiological driving processes at different maize growth stages under long-term fertilization remain unclear. Based on a 45-years field experiment, four treatments were selected—namely, CK (no fertilizers), N (276 kg ha−1), M (60,000 manure and MN + 276 ha−1)—to study response characteristics fertilization. The results showed that significantly changed photosynthetic endogenous hormones content. Among them, increased rate (Pn) by 41.9–152.3% compared CK. Organic fertilizer addition (M MN) superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), soluble sugar (SS) 26.7–64.3%, 42.5–155.4%, 16.4–89.5%, respectively. proline (Pro) malondialdehyde (MDA) content decreased 19.1–44.3% 0.6-21.3%, Under these treatments, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), gibberellins (GA), salicylic (SA), zeatin riboside (ZR), abscisic (ABA), SS, SOD, POD main indicators photosynthesis. result PLS-SEM indicated pathways “IAA or ZR SA-SOD-POD-Pn” “GA ABA-SOD POD-SS-Pn”. Additionally, grain yield N, M, 111.2%, 218.1%, 297.2% CK, Overall, organic combined with nitrogen could maintain higher level capacity balancing enhancing activity antioxidant enzymes support production.
