Abstract Kalanchoe species, originally introduced worldwide as ornamentals, are now reported to be spreading in many regions, including China. It is hypothesized that morphological plasticity and the production of asexual plantlets contribute their successful invasion. To address hypothesis, four species - delagoensis Eckl. & Zeyh., × houghtonii D. B. Ward, laetivirens Desc. daigremontiana Raym. Hamet H. Perrier were cultivated under contrasting light water conditions, reproductive vegetative traits examined. The plants subjected high tended prioritize plantlet production, accompanied by a reduction growth. Two distinct strategies observed: K. significantly increased whereas enhanced fresh weight individual without altering total number produced. These results highlight growth response availability. may widespread occurrence open fields.

The import of ornamental plants has become a major source alien invasive in China, posing threats to local ecosystems. However, research on their potential and management strategies remains limited. This study evaluated the invasion risks nine representative introduced (including naturalized species) China (IOPCs). Using ecospat perform climatic niche comparisons, we found significant unfilling expansion (>50%) most plants, indicating strong invasiveness. Species distribution models (SDMs) were applied predict current future distributions these IOPCs under four shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs: SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, SSP5-8.5) across time periods (2021-2040, 2041-2060, 2061-2080, 2081-2100). SDM results showed that high-risk areas are concentrated southern China. Under climate change, moderate- zones projected shift northward, with total increasing significantly, namely moderate-risk by 106.10% 64.35%, particularly border regions Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang. We recommend establishing restricted introduction lists for non-native enhancing monitoring regions, implementing early eradication measures. quantified providing scientific basis effective control strategies.

Biodiversity conservation is a key factor in meeting sustainable development goals. This even more important cities, where green spaces are becoming increasingly scarce. study analyzes Kinshasa’s proliferating ornamental plant nurseries, known as informal horticultural sites (IHSs). The analysis focused on characterizing the profile of horticulturists, their production conditions, and species produced. A total 15 IHSs were sampled using “snowball” technique, 178 horticulturists surveyed. Based socio-professional five groups IHS distinguished after hierarchical clustering principal components (HCPC). We found that exclusively employed men, most whom new to trade, from all levels education, ranged 19 45 years old. Production conditions relatively similar one site another. However, characterized by permanent land insecurity, use phytosanitary products, plant-conditioning methods not very diversified calibrated growers’ investment capacities, seed acquisition methods. 139 species, them exotic, identified. Of these, 37% phanerophytes, 24% considered potentially invasive. suggest ways professionalizing activity protecting urban environment.

Abstract Winter is a critical bottleneck period for many insects and particularly pivotal pest species, being major regulator of their populations. In winter, insect fruit pests such as the invasive fly, Drosophila suzukii , not only have to cope with harsh environmental conditions but also need find alternative resources when cultivated are scarce. Rapid urbanization significantly accelerated plant invasion. Invasive plants may strategically allocate resources in response to vary environments along urban and rural gradients facilitate invasion success. However, there are still few studies have tested whether how invasive traits among growth, reproduction, defense against herbivory abiotic stresses associated urbanization. We combined field surveys on reproduction of Phytolacca americana with leaf samples for analyses physiological ecological traits. Overall, we found exhibited higher growth rate, SLA, total nitrogen, soluble sugar, flavonoids saponins but lower racemes per fruits raceme, carbon nitrogen ratio habitats compared the habitats. The impact rate P. was linked herbivory. Defensive negatively correlated related stresses. Our results indicate that urbanization, adjust their resource allocation decrease investment increase tolerance environments, which contribute our knowledge adapt a wide range heterogeneous through trade-offs resources.

Summary This paper presents the results of research on dendroflora Natural Monument (NM) “Stari park” in Temerin, Serbia. The park’s natural values are intricately linked to characteristics its dendrofloristic elements, i.e. large dimensions and age trees. To gain insight into changes diversity, flora recorded 2004 2022 was compared. In 2022, a field study conducted provide detailed analysis, including taxonomic species origin assessment presence autochthonous, allochthonous, invasive species, as well biological spectrum. Although Celtis occidentalis L. remained most represented eighteen years later, percentage decreased from 34% 21%. decline can be attributed emergence new dominant such Fraxinus angustifolia Vahl. (15%), Ulmus effusa Willd. (13%), Acer platanoides (9%). These four now collectively constitute 58% trees park.

Wildflower areas are increasingly used in both urban and rural settings to enhance landscape aesthetics help the conservation of pollinators, whose dramatic decline threatens ecosystem functioning agricultural production. Consequently, today many ‘pollinator-friendly’ wildflower seed mixes can be found on market. Criteria for design these focused ability plants attract whereas identity themselves terms their alien or native status is often not adequately considered. Moreover, lack sufficient floral resources early spring late-season months, which important sustain pollinators throughout whole life cycle. In this study, we analyzed 36 commercially available Italy (1) abundance species, (2) occurrence locally species with reference three Italian geographic (northern, peninsular, insular Italy), (3) flowering period species. Most (83%) contain Italy, them also including invasive Among (41%) at least one areas. Overall, provide earlier blooms than around 35% early-spring (March) prolonged autumn (September-November). These findings highlight widespread use plant mixes, poses serious risks biodiversity habitat conservation, especially when sown We suggest a more careful such promoting wider adoption seeds local origin greater attention blooming period. If properly designed, represent an effective strategy
