The migration and transformation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in highly heterogeneous permeable karst aquifers are great significance to the regional carbon cycle but rarely explored, especially response extreme climate events. In this study, we utilized spectroscopic indices investigate variations DOM concentration, composition, origin Mahuang Cave, Southwest China, from August 2020 October 2022. findings indicate that meteorological conditions, hydrological pathways, in–situ metabolism primarily control dynamics cave drip water. However, due complex fractures stratigraphy, composition at four monitoring sites—classified into slow fast seepage—showed different responses Therefore, surface reworking must be fully considered when assessing environmental information recorded by sediments.
