Nature-based solutions (NBS) are effective approaches for solving ecological and economic problems related to wetland reconstruction, while emergy exergy well suited evaluating reconstructed eco-economic systems. In this paper, we executed a reconstruction project involving mulberry-fir woodland dike-pond complex (MFWDPC) with NBS in the water-level fluctuation zone of Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR), China. We evaluated coupling mode system by using theories. After density that entered MFWDPC was 1.48E + 18 sej yr−1 hm−2, which naturally renewable flow accounted 96.31 % inflows, sustainability index (ESI) 708.88. The specific were 2.41E 14 j 2.08E 08 kg−1, respectively, emergy/exergy ratio 1.55E 03 MFWDPC. addition, mulberry trees strong flooding tolerance provided good benefits due use these plants Our study helps understanding synergistic symbiosis between ecosystems systems, thereby promoting degraded wetlands China other regions.

Although policymakers and stakeholders are beginning to acknowledge the importance of marine biosphere in blue carbon services, role large vertebrates nitrogen cycle especially sequestration has not yet been fully understood. Large store only a small percentage total oceanic their bodies, but they can provide important lasting contributions flux. The Península Valdés Biosphere Reserve southwestern Argentina was partially established conserve these vertebrates, including South American sea lion ( Otaria flavescens ) southern right whale Eubalaena australis ). Three locations Peninsula were sampling for proximity vertebrate populations area presence salt marshes assess organic (OC) (TN) stocks top 1 m sediment. Our work provides first quantitative data on OC TN sequestered coastal sediments shows that this protected contributes significantly by storing relevant quantities (140 317 Mg ha -1 (7.3 22.9 Specifically, we found terrestrial plants main C sources each sediment core, non-negligible proportion (from 0.8 6.8% dry weight) showed an isotopic signal from usually inhabit area. Therefore, our results novel hypotheses about potential contribution as vector systems may serve basis further investigation into carbon.

Interconnected societal challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and food security demand immediate coordinated action across local to global scales, guided by coherent policies management mechanisms. Reflecting on the critical need address challenges, Nature-based Solutions in marine coastal environments, known blue NBS, have emerged an important part of response strategy. Blue NBS integrate actions protect restore ecosystems while managing human impacts, embedding nature people into decision-making through multifaceted approaches. However, implementation trails terrestrial NBS. To effectively inform implementation, research must produce actionable science that is relevant, timely usable, requiring collaboration active knowledge exchange science-policy-practitioner interface. Working with stakeholders, we developed MaCoBioS Toolbox begin addressing some barriers facing implementation. Containing a collection multi-disciplinary, scientifically-grounded stakeholder-informed tools products, toolbox guides practitioners different stages This provides initial set resources support design effective pave way for further collaborative work operationalise these social-ecological contexts.
