Abstract Submerged macrophytes can overgrow and negatively affect freshwater ecosystems. This study aimed to investigate the use of chlormequat (CQ) regulate submerged Vallisneria natans growth as well its impact on microbial community epiphytic biofilms. V. height under CQ dosages 20, 100, 200 mg/L decreased within 21 days by 12.57%, 30.07%, 44.62%, respectively, while chlorophyll content increased 1.94%, 20.39%, 38.83%. At 100 mg/L, reduced diversity bacteria in biofilm attached leaves but eukaryotic community. strongly inhibited Cyanobacteria; compared with control group, treatment group experienced a significant reduction from 36.54% 2.61%.
