This study investigates the performance, resilience and microbial community dynamics of two anaerobic processes, i.e. pure anammox (R1) partial denitrification/anammox (PD/A) (R2), following a 30-day starvation period. The tolerance to was assessed by comparing nitrogen removal efficiency activity across both reactors. Results show that PD/A process recovery pre-starvation performance levels within just one day, as compared process. Notably, although bacteria decreased in processes during starvation, decay rate R1 69.59 % higher than R2, potentially explaining quicker R2. Furthermore, enhanced secretion extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) served protective mechanism. potential functions genes microorganisms, well pathway cycling, were demonstrated through analyses using KEGG database. research reveals essential mechanistic insights strategic guidance for effective implementation anammox-based biological processes.
