Microbial communities in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) play a crucial role the decontamination of polluted water. An uncultured order-level lineage AKYH767 phylum Bacteroidota has been consistently detected microbial consortia activated sludge at WWTPs worldwide, but its functional remains elusive. Representatives were also soils and freshwater bodies, which may be their natural reservoirs. Here, we obtained ten high-quality metagenome-assembled genomes, including one closed circular genome, bacteria from metagenomes used genomic data to uncover metabolic potential these predict role. The cells inferred rod-shaped non-motile. Genome-based reconstruction predicted Embden–Meyerhof pathway, non-oxidative stage pentose phosphate complete tricarboxylic acid cycle. A facultatively anaerobic chemoheterotrophic lifestyle with capacity oxidize low organic substrates through aerobic respiration was suggested. Under conditions can perform different steps denitrification. They have limited capacities hydrolyze carbohydrates proteinaceous utilize fatty acids. peculiar property is presence phenylacetyl-CoA pathway for utilization phenylacetate, about half genomes encoded benzoate degradation pathway. Apparently, bioreactors WWTPs, could involved denitrification biodegradation aromatic compounds. Based on phylogenetic analyses, novel bacterium proposed classified as Candidatus Pollutiaquabacter aromativorans, within candidate order Pollutiaquabacterales.
