Abstract Background The climate crisis has a wide range of direct and indirect mental health impacts on populations. However, their quantification is limited by the lack unified definitions assessment tools. aim this systematic review to map all psychometric instruments used measure emotions associated with crisis, evaluate characteristics, identify any existing gaps. Methods protocol was registered PROSPERO. Data were reported following COSMIN Risk Bias PROM PRISMA checklists. Original articles describing properties and/or validation self-report measures designed assess eco-anxiety other change-related in general population within scope review. PubMed, PsycINFO, Web Science search engines used. Findings A total 10 different scales measuring various eco-emotions identified. The mental health impact of the environmental crisis, particularly eco-anxiety, is a growing research topic whose measurement still lacks consensus. In this article, we use item response theory (IRT) to better un-derstand what existing questionnaires measure. To conduct review, used open-access data from short French version Climate Change Anxiety Questionnaire (Mouguiama-Daouda et al. 2022, Heeren al., 2023). Our results suggest that, different models tested, unidimensional model seems be most appropriate for measuring eco-anxiety. difficulty parameter extracted IRT enabled us discuss level severity items making up tool. more severe moderately Ave-nues improving questionnaire and eco-anxiety in general are then discussed.

This study aims to use item response theory (IRT) gain deeper understanding constructs measured by existing questionnaires. To conduct this review, we applied graded model with help MIRT package in R on open-access data from short French version Climate Change Anxiety Questionnaire, which measures cognitive-emotional impairment and functional impairment. models tested are one, two, three-factor models, bifactor model. After selection, psychometric properties selected were tested. Our results suggest that unidimensional seems be most appropriate for measuring eco-anxiety. difficulty parameter extracted IRT enabled us discuss severity levels items comprising tool.
