Abstract As one of the biggest environmental and equality challenges our time, climate change is causing some people to experience anxiety . To address need for valid reliable measurement this construct, we adapted Hogg Eco-Anxiety Scale measure in United Kingdom ( n = 501) States 508). In both samples, found Climate Anxiety (HCAS) was comprised four dimensions: affective symptoms, behavioural ruminative thoughts, about one’s personal impact. The four-factor HCAS fit data well, showed invariance these two all dimensions were internally consistent. Importantly, also provide evidence convergent validity by demonstrating that scores positively correlated with an alternative eco-anxiety a more general indicator worry daily life. distinct associations theoretically related constructs, example only impact rumination significant predictors taking collective action on change, distinctly predictive inequality beliefs. We recommend as brief (13 item) tool capture experiences anxiety.

Introduction Climate change is a source of global concern that has both direct and general impacts on mental health. A recent study conducted following severe bushfires in Australia demonstrated relationships among nature connectedness, climate action, worry, health; for example, connectedness was associated with which turn psychological distress. Methods The present sought to replicate those findings while building them two important ways: first, test similar different geographical context been mostly spared from by acute events; second, we take into consideration an additional factor, knowledge, linked relevant factors such as anxiety. Results results survey completed 327 adults revealed relationship between anxiety, Further mirroring previous findings, individual collective but the distress differed. Discussion proposed model better fit collected data high levels knowledge than low levels, suggesting influences how above relate each other.

Abstract Background Eco-anxiety, the experience of challenging emotions relating to environmental issues, such as climate change, and threats they present, is increasing global public health concern. Although responses eco-anxiety can be positive motivational, experienced a severe extent, may contribute depressive anxiety disorders, exacerbate existing mental conditions negatively impact general wellbeing. Children young people more susceptible higher levels eco-anxiety, but factors which are not well-understood. Methods A comprehensive search articles published between 2017-2023 was conducted on using EBSCOhost for APA PsycArticles, PsycInfo, Child Development & Adolescent Studies, CINAHL, EconLit, GreenFILE, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition, MEDLINE, Psychology Behavioral Sciences Collection, SocINDEX, with additional individual searches PubMed, Google Scholar, MedRxiv PsyArxiv. The quality included assessed Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Checklist. findings were summarised narrative synthesis approach. Results Eighteen studies in after screening 2,588 articles. Determinants three major categories identified: social (including age, gender, socioeconomic position, education, news media), (climate activism, government inaction sense betrayal), (direct exposure change-related events country/region). Nine cross-sectional, five qualitative, mixed methods one longitudinal. Most from high-income countries, particularly Australia, New Zealand Norway. Studies variable methodological quality, different measurement approaches most surveys online non-representative samples. Conclusion Eco-anxiety influenced by range political, factors. Governments mass media could play an important role preventing becoming clinical Given lack high-quality this area, further research essential better understand determinants across cultures help minimize its wellbeing ensure it channeled positively.
