Abstract Background Equine influenza virus (EIV) is one of the most important pathogens causing respiratory signs in equids. Rapid antigen detection (RAD) kits are useful for point‐of‐care testing because they user‐friendly and provide fast results. Although sensitive broad‐reactive RAD needed controlling horse movement, no specified EIV available. Objective This study evaluated usefulness seven originally developed human available Japan during 2023–2024 detection. Study Design Experimental assay comparison. Methods The limits each kit were determined using five‐fold serial dilutions two H3N8 strains. According to results limits, three (Quick Chaser Auto Flu A, B, Finevision Influenza, RapidTesta Flu·NEXT) further nasopharyngeal swabs horses experimentally infected with EIV. Results With reverse‐transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT‐qPCR) as a reference assay, sensitivities Quick Flu·NEXT, Influenza 63%, 61%, 54%, respectively. Main Limitation Samples from naturally not tested. Conclusions Since detecting antigens vary, choosing appropriate essential. less than RT‐qPCR, ancillary diagnostic tools field.
