The small fruits from Empetrum rubrum were consumed by Native Americans in southern Patagonia. Two samples collected close to the Magellan Street and Beagle channel Tierra del Fuego investigated. Three different extracts berries analyzed, namely: methanol, phenolic-enriched (PEE) ethyl acetate (EtOAc). total phenolic, flavonoid, procyanidin anthocyanin content of was determined. effect towards metabolic syndrome-associated enzymes α-glucosidase, α-amylase pancreatic lipase assessed. In addition, antioxidant capacity measured using DPPH, FRAP, TEAC ORAC assays. composition determined HPLC-MS/MS. Seventy-one compounds identified for first time berries, including 10 anthocyanins, 35 flavonoids, 11 phenylpropanoids 13 procyanidins. main quantified HPLC-DAD. displayed strong activity as α-glucosidase inhibitors, with IC50 values ranging 0.10 0.19 μg/mL PEE 0.82–1.95 EtOAc extracts, respectively. results show high chemical diversity differences boreal species E. nigrum.
