Abstract Cd contamination, especially in farmland soil, can pose serious threats to human health as well ecological security. Stabilization is an important strategy for agricultural soil remediation. In this study, a Cd-resistant strain ( Cupriavidus B-7) was isolated and loaded onto cow manure (CDB), rice straw (RSB) pine wood biochar (PB) investigate its effects on stabilization by 60-day pot experiment. Results indicated that the B-7-loaded (labelled CDBB, PBB RSBB) reduced CaCl 2 -extractable 43.06–59.78%, which significantly superior individual applications of B-7 biochar. Likewise, physicochemical properties, urease, catalase phosphatase activities were improved, indicating improved health. Consequently, dry weights pakchoi’s shoot root increased 938.9–1230.9% 149.1–281.2%, respectively, applying RSBB. Meanwhile, accumulation pakchoi shoots decreased 38.06–50.75%. Notably, RSBB exhibited optimal performance growth promotion alleviation. The structural equation model synergistic effect between B-7. Our research provides some new insights into development strategies green sustainable remediation Cd-contaminated soil. Graphical

Abstract Biochar has a large specific surface area, well-developed pore structure, abundant functional groups, and superior nutrient supply capacity, which is widely available environmentally friendly with its advantages in waste resource utilization, heavy metal(loid) remediation, carbon storage. This review focuses on the interactions between biochar (including raw biochar, (modified/ engineered/ designer biochar), composite biochar) rhizosphere during remediation of soil contaminated metal(loid)s (Pb, As, Cd, Hg, Co, Cu, Ni, Zn, Cr, etc.) effects these microbial communities root exudates (enzymes low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs)). In terms microorganisms, affects composition, diversity, structure through nutrients, provision colonization sites, immobilization metal(loid)s, introduction exogenous microorganisms. With regard to exudates, provides electron transfer support microorganisms regulates secretion enzymes resist oxidative stress stimulated by ameliorates acidification caused LMWOAs, promotes activity enzymes. The roles mechanisms soils are discussed, as well challenges metal(loid)-contaminated soils, issues that need be addressed future research foreseen. Graphical
