The transformation of recalcitrant pharmaceutical pollutants into products with diminished concerns via heterogeneous photocatalysis has gained considerable momentum over the past several years. However, practical applications most semiconductor-based photocatalysts are severely restricted, attributed to insufficient visible light response pertaining their wide band gap, ultrafast recombination photogenerated charge carriers, and issues corresponding retrieval for persistent usage. Herein, rosette-like molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoflowers directly grown on interpenetrating networks graphene aerogels (GAs) through a facile one-step hydrothermal method, resulting lightweight, self-supporting composites systematically assessed photocatalytic degradation tetracycline (TC). Notably, after 120 min exposure light, ∼91% TC is degraded MoS2/GAs, which severalfold higher than pristine MoS2, standalone GA, other contemporary photocatalysts. Based radical quenching assay, hydroxyl radicals superoxide anions principal mediators dissociation TC. Furthermore, primary intermediates residual breakdown distinguished, conceivable disintegration pathway proposed. Besides, these tailor-made hybrid can be recuperated easily successfully reused multiple cycles, suggesting widespread consideration in wastewater treatment.
