The anaerobic digestion (AD) of organic matter is susceptible to the challenges posed by low-speed electron transfer between microorganisms and limitation low hydrogen partial pressure, resulting in methane recovery efficiency poor system stability. Numerous studies recent years have shown that a variety conductive materials can significantly increase interspecies (IET) rate, optimize structure function microbial communities, improve yield, promote stability mediating direct (DIET) reciprocal microorganisms. In this study, on basis investigating IET mechanism methanogenic AD matter, effects carbon-based (activated carbon, biochar, carbon cloth, fiber, graphite, graphite felt, graphene, nanotubes) iron-based (magnetite, Fe3O4, hematite, Fe2O3, goethite, zero-valent iron) performance community using DIET are reviewed. Future research should focus establishing an evaluation system, identifying flora with potential, finding methods for engineering applications reveal principle mediate DIET.
