Water quality degradation by decommissioned mining sites is an environmental issue recognized globally. In the Ore mountains of Central Europe, a wide array contaminants released abandoned under- and aboveground threatening quantity surface groundwater resources. Here, we focus on less-explored internal pollution processes within these mines involving organic carbon microorganisms in trace metal(loid)s mobilization processes. Over 18-month period, conducted hydrological biogeochemical monitoring at Reiche Zeche mine, former lead-zinc-silver Germany, reaching 230 meters below ground, well critical zone. Our results show strong seasonal fluctuations water availability, concentrations metal(loid)s, pH, dissolved matter (DOM) components across multiple depths. Excess metal(loid) presence during high flow conditions indicated behavior deviating from conservative dilution. findings reveal positive correlations between variability pH (0.894), DOM fluorescent component C2 (-0.910), proxy for microbial activity. Accordingly, may significantly contribute to observed composition fluxes. By elucidating intricate roles factors mobilization, our research offers comprehensive framework improving mine management remediation, potentially informing global policies sustainable practices.
