Chenopodium quinoa Willd. (quinoa), a highly nutritious pseudocereal, is promising crop to address global food insecurity challenges intensified by population growth and climate change. However, drought stress remains significant constraint for cultivation. The plant exhibits several morphophysiological adaptations water conditions, including root system modifications, reduced rate, leaf abscission, stomatal closure. While these enhance tolerance, they can also negatively impact growth, potentially through alterations in architecture, physiological changes, e.g., regulations, anatomical changes. Different studies have suggested that soil amendment with biochar, pyrolyzed organic material, improve productivity under conditions. Biochar application the significantly enhances physiochemical characteristics maintains status, thereby promoting mitigating negative consequences of on production. This review focuses current understanding behavior potential biochar as management strategy. We summarize existing research applying biochar-amended alleviate stress.

In this study, biochar derived from sewage sludge was applied to remediate Cu and Cd co-polluted soil in semi-arid areas for the first time, which effects of on improvement physicochemical biological properties as well immobilization were investigated. Soil water holding capacity increased by 0.22–2.74%, CEC 0.52–4.06 units, SOM content 1.41–5.97 times, urease catalase activities 0.012–0.032 mg·g−1·24 h−1, 0.18–2.95 mg H2O2·g−1, but pH only slightly 0.69 units after application. addition, although total these two metals with use biochar, DTPA-Cu decreased −0.128–0.291 mg/kg, 0–0.037 increase application, acid-soluble 27.42 mg/kg 3.76 mobility bioavailability decreased. Finally, complexation organic functional groups dominates process metals, especially Cu. These findings suggest that can effectively improve quality heavy metal-contaminated soils regions. Meanwhile, sludge-based remediation contaminated also provides a new method safe disposal way sustainable development. subsequent studies, methods such modification are recommended efficiency removal Cd.

Biochar is stable in soil and can have long-term effects on its physicochemical properties. Hence, a pot experiment was conducted with medium-fertility (MF) low-fertility (LF) soils after 1 year of rice husk biochar organic fertilizer application to determine biochar’s residual chemical properties, grain yield, greenhouse gas emissions. In previous years, alone (at rates 5 10 t ha−1) combined chicken manure (CHM) or cow rate were applied the soil. present year, fertilized only fertilizers. Results indicated that ha−1 CHM (B10:CHM) produced highest yield total global warming potential (GWPtotal) both soils. Regarding non-significant results detected for B10:CHM, B5:CHM, B10. This study revealed retains nutrients without annual reapplication has effects. Although suppress N2O emissions effectively, significantly increased CH4 Overall, B5:CHM be recommended cultivation since it improves increasing GWPtotal.
