Plastic residues have emerged as a significant challenge in the environmental sector. Microplastics, which are plastic fragments smaller than 5 mm, ability to disperse through atmosphere, oceans, and land, posing serious threat human health by accumulating food chain. However, their minuscule size makes it difficult effectively remove them from environment using current technologies. This work provides comprehensive overview of recent advancements microplastic detection removal For methods, we discuss commonly used techniques such microscopic analysis, thermal mass spectrometry, spectroscopic energy spectrometry. Microplastic contamination in terrestrial environments has risen significantly, far exceeding levels marine environments. This shift underscores the concerning prevalence of microplastics (MPs) sewage sludge and soil, raising environmental apprehensions. Microplastics from various sources accumulate systems, consequently, soil have transformed into primary reservoirs microplastic pollutants, capable infiltrating aquatic ecosystems. While using to enrich provides nutrients, it simultaneously introduces substantial content, posing hazards. These can altering its properties potentially polluting deeper layers groundwater, compounding risks. review scrutinizes abundance, types, shapes evaluating their impacts suggesting future research directions. Statistical analysis reveals higher concentrations (271 Particles/kg dry weight) than (34.6 Particles/kg).
