Microplastics (MPs) can enter the human body through respiration and pose a hazard to health. Wearing masks has become routine behavior during COVID-19 pandemic. The level of respirational exposure influence wearing are currently unknown. We recruited 113 college students divided them into natural (NE), surgical mask (SM), cotton (CM) groups. Nasal lavage fluid (NLF) was collected MPs characteristics were analyzed using polarized light microscopy laser direct infrared system. found relatively high abundance in NLF SM group (41.24 ± 1.73 particles/g). particle size distribution fibrous MP percentage significantly differed among three main components NE, SM, CM groups polypropylene (58.70 %),polycarbonate (PC, 49.49 %),and PC (54.29 %). Components such as polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate also detected. increased (β = 0.36, P < 0.01). As wear time increased, rose 0.28, 0.05). However, those who used bedding containing synthetic fibers had lower their NLF. This study highlights use evaluate exposure, which is associated with potential health risks.

Microplastics have become a ubiquitous pollutant that permeates every aspect of our environment—from the oceans to soil elementary foundations human life. New findings demonstrate microplastic particles not only pose latent threat adult populations, but also play serious role even before birth during fetal stages development. Exposure microplastics early childhood is another source risk almost impossible prevent. This comprehensive review examines multiple aspects associated with development, detailing mechanisms by which these enter body, their bioaccumulation in tissues throughout life and inevitable re-entry into different ecosystems after death.
