Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) may impair bone development in adolescence, which impacts life-long health. No previous studies have examined prospective associations of individual PFAS their mixture with mineral density (BMD) changes Hispanic young persons, a population at high risk osteoporosis adulthood.

Etiology of hepatic steatosis and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) among acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains unclear. Existing studies suggested the potential role per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in comorbidity ACS patients. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study based on inpatients to assess associations plasma PFAS congeners mixtures with MAFLD. This included 546 newly diagnosed Twelve were quantified using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Hepatic was defined by index (HSI). MAFLD as combination risk factor calculation abnormalities. Generalized linear model used examine HSI Adaptive elastic net (AENET) further for selection. Mixture effects also assessed Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR). Congeners analysis observed significant greater percent change each doubling PFOS (1.82%, 95% CI: 0.87%, 2.77%), PFHxS (1.17%, 0.46%, 1.89%) total (1.84%, 0.56%, 3.14%). Moreover, (OR=1.42, 1.13, 1.81), (OR=1.31, 1.09, 1.59) (OR=1.43, 1.06, 1.94) associated increased In AENET regression, only presented positive HSI. indicated between is first demonstrate patients, which provides hypothesis into mechanisms behind well tertiary prevention ACS.

Strong epidemiological evidence shows positive associations between exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) adverse cardiometabolic outcomes (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia). However, the underlying cardiometabolic-relevant biological activities of PFAS in humans remain largely unclear. We evaluated with high-throughput proteomics Hispanic youth. included 312 overweight/obese adolescents from Study Latino Adolescents at Risk (SOLAR) 2001 2012, along 137 young adults Metabolic Asthma Incidence Research (Meta-AIR) 2014 2018. Plasma (i.e., PFOS, PFOA, PFHxS, PFHpS, PFNA) were quantified using liquid-chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry. proteins (n = 334) measured utilizing proximity extension assay an Olink Explore Cardiometabolic Panel I. conducted linear regression covariate adjustment identify PFAS-associated proteins. Results after adjusting for multiple comparisons showed 13 significant SOLAR six Meta-AIR, sharing similar inflammation, immunity, oxidative stress. In SOLAR, PFNA demonstrated largest number proteins, including ACP5, CLEC1A, HMOX1, LRP11, MCAM, SPARCL1, SSC5D. After considering mixture effect PFAS, only SSC5D remained significant. mixtures GDF15 IL6. Exploratory analysis findings.
