Abstract Poorly treated domestic wastewater and diffuse nutrient loading from agriculture informal human settlements greatly threaten water resources due to the alteration of ecosystem function reduction water’s fitness for use. Thus, aim study was assess in eutrophic Roodeplaat Dam (RD) inform resource management as a foundation rehabilitation dam. The objectives were determine Total Phosphorus (TP) Nitrogen (N) capacity into RD well propose total mean annual sustainability Flow Duration Curves Load employed analytical tools. It observed N TP varied significantly among sites investigated actual loads higher than allowable load throughout area. further that more prominent during low flows reduced dilution effect. this recommended application nature-based solutions control pollution reduce stormwater runoff input, employing low-cost green treatment technology options effluent municipal pond systems, which requires less energy. Stringent point source measures recommended, quality planning should consider desired beneficial use per catchment, considering impactors.

Ecological thresholds are a useful indicator for implementing ecological management. Many studies determine the nutrient loads in lakes based on maximum allowable concentration of chlorophyll (Chla), although this neglects overall performance ecosystem. A PCLake model Baiyangdian (BYD) Lake northern China was constructed with six network analysis (ENA) indicators that characterized ecosystem function, system maturity, and food web structure to quantify status BYD To my knowledge, is first study level responses phosphorus load interference. Different scenarios were designed simulate Lake. The simulated results employed calculate ENA indicators. determined through driving response relationship between gradient show non-linear transition under gradient. As increases, D/H, SOI, FCI decreases while A/DC, TPP/TR, TPP/TB increases. This indicates function will deteriorate if 0.50-1.32 mg m

This study aimed at determining the relationship of chlorophyll a (Chl a) and nutrients in two reservoirs different sizes, namely Bueng Si Than Thung Sang, which are located Khon Kaen Province Thailand. The evaluation trophic state index estimated threshold amounts was consequently considered. Water samples were collected during both dry rainy seasons with twenty-seven sampling points each reservoir. Parameters indicating water quality based on APHA method. results showed significant difference average physicochemical properties nutritional parameters smaller proportion, having more than Sang (p < 0.05). Nutrient factors (TP, TKN) impact occurrence eutrophication season season. Average ratios Chl together revealed hypertrophic conditions reservoirs. high value a:TP signaled that algal growth these could be controlled by TP. Pearson correlation analysis indicated strong positive TP Than. Moreover, obtained from simulation achieved using MATLAB R2022a, performed fourth order polynomial equation, boundary values 28.25–29.42 μg/L 4.15-4.19 mg/L for TKN prior to Eutrophic occurrence, ascertain further management small-scale artificial

Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) and algal cell density (ACD) are vital for assessing proliferation eutrophication in aquatic ecosystems. Although Chl-a is often used as a proxy ACD, its accuracy requires validation, studies on their linear correlation scarce. Additionally, ACD influenced by various factors, including nutritional, economic, biochemical, physicochemical, meteorological factors. However, the relative importance of these factors remains insufficiently studied. This study analyzed data from 57 lakes reservoirs across China March 2021 to February 2023, investigating distribution patterns different regions seasons. The employed regression model explore between seasons throughout China. Furthermore, Mantel test generalized were evaluated nutritional (total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), TN/TP ratio (TN/TP), ammonia (NH3-N)), economic (gross domestic product), (surface pressure, net solar radiation, air temperature, wind speed (WS), rainfall (RF)), well biochemical physicochemical (turbidity (TUR), pH value, water temperature (WT), permanganate index, dissolved oxygen) ACD. Results showed that average concentrations South highest, at 12 μg/L 19.5 × 106 cells/L, respectively. Seasonally, peaked spring was lowest winter, while summer winter. Significant seasonal regional variations observed, with showing strongest relationship. In Central China, significantly correlated four seasons, whereas correlations less distinct Eastern Western regions. Therefore, caution. Nutrient (TN, TP, TN/TP, NH3-N) identified primary drivers Meteorological (WS, RF), along (WT, TUR) also emerged critical predictors spatial variations. validates analyzes spatiotemporal distribution, assesses influence enhancing our understanding dynamics Chinese reservoirs.

Abstract Assessing future chlorophyll‐a (Chl‐a) changes is crucial for developing effective lake management programs. Future assessments should integrate socio‐economic and climatic factors, including extreme climate impacts. However, such are lacking. This study developed a novel framework integrated model to analyze Chl‐a response in Chaohu Lake (e.g., precipitation, temperature, wind) population, fertilizer application, livestock farming). The results indicated that by around 2050, the concentration would change −6.5% −0.1% compared 2020. While factors significantly altered nitrogen phosphorus loading, exogenous loading had minimal effect on due high endogenous releases. decrease mainly increase precipitation. reduction was primarily driven increased precipitation (0.6%–12.9%), leading −9.4% −4.4% changes. runoff also provided an opportunity treat heavily polluted area. Air temperature increases of 5.1%–9.2% resulted 0.9%–3.1%. On annual scales effects were mean values. variability significant at seasonal scales, example, lower spring temperatures favored summer Chl‐a. There uncertainty about impact wind speeds. emphasized importance comprehensively quantifying impacts external pressures water quality assessment reference pathway support large, shallow lakes.

Reliable forecasts of large-scale chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) levels one week ahead in the Murray–Darling Basin are essential for water resources management, as increasing Chl-a bodies indicate possible harmful algal blooms, a serious threat freshwater security. A lack high-resolution data space and time is major constraint delivering early warnings. To address scarcity, we developed forecasting model integrating remote sensing time-series modelling. Using situ measurements from bodies, locally recalibrated two-band ratio algorithm, namely Normalized Difference Chlorophyll Index (NDCI), Sentinel-2 to derive levels. The significantly improved accuracy high estimates our dataset after mitigating heteroscedasticity.
