Background Hong Kong’s 3-year dynamic zero-COVID policy has caused prolonged exposure to stringent, pervasive anti-epidemic measures, which poses additional stressors on emotional well-being through pandemic fatigue, beyond the incumbent fear of pandemic. Aims To investigate how major shifts in strategy have corresponded with changing relationships between well-being, fatigue from adherence, and fear, following peak a living-with-COVID policy. Method A three-wave repeated cross-sectional study ( N = 2266) was conducted Chinese working-age population (18–64 years) during outbreak (Wave 1), subsequent towards initial relaxation 2) full 3) measures March 2022 2023. Non-parametric tests, consisting robust analysis covariance tests quantile regression analysis, were performed. Results The severity all lowered after Wave 1; however, extreme fears reported 2 n 38, 7.7%) associated worse than then subsided 3. Pandemic posed greater negative 1, whereas dominant predictor Waves Conclusions together robustly highlight psychological cost responses, expanding framework for monitoring minimising unintended mental health ramifications policies.

Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges, particularly the psychological impact of prolonged preventive measures. This study aimed to explore longitudinal relationships among adherence, anti-pandemic fatigue, and depression, focusing on how these dynamics evolved. Methods: A prospective survey was conducted 627 adults in Hong Kong during across 3 waves. Repeated measures ANOVA, cross-lagged path modeling, mediation model were employed assess temporal depression. Results: Adherence at T3 significantly predicted T4’s fatigue ( B = 0.196, SE 0.055) depression 1.690, 0.247), 0.684, 0.260). These effects diminished later waves, reflecting relief as restrictions eased. Notably, adherence found increase which turn exacerbated depressive symptoms. Conclusion: While varied over time points, design has clarified causal inference. highlights mental toll emphasizes importance designing integrative strategies that support while addressing findings offer actionable insights for primary care community health programs managing future public emergencies.

Background Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions is especially critical controlling disease spread. Understanding factors that influence initial demotivation comply with public health guidance can enable design of more effective for future epidemics. Methods We collected participant-reported data on psychological distress and number weekly contacts non-household members across six surveys administered between April September 2020 among two cohorts: (1) families children (2) adults aged 50 years older. then used marginal structural models examine time-varying effect interactions as a measure pandemic fatigue. Results Among children, each unit increase at beginning study resulted 9% (RR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.03 1.16), but declined additional week by 1.8% (ratio RR: 0.982; 0.971 0.993). For over age 50, relationship was reversed. Increasing led 7.2% decline 0.928; 0.863, 0.998) study, this increased 1.0% 1.01; 1.00 1.02). Conclusions observed recommendations reduce change time (pandemic fatigue) differed our cohorts. Response strategies younger/lower risk populations may be when focused broader implications community transmission, while response older/higher if they focus increasing resilience fostering safe coping strategies.

There is a growing interest in the joint modeling of dynamics disease and health-related beliefs attitudes, but coupling mechanisms are yet to be understood. We introduce model where risk information, which can delayed, comes two flavors, including historical derived from perceived incidence data predicted information. The rapid emergence and widespread transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have prompted governments worldwide to enact policies measures manage the virus's spread. These interventions substantially contributed controlling disease transmission. However, they also significantly disrupted daily life, leading increased public fatigue resistance sustained control measures, a phenomenon known as pandemic fatigue. To develop comprehensive understanding fatigue, this review systematically explores concept identifies quantitative indicators for measuring it. We reviewed studies on across various countries, summarized contributing factors, analyzed its impact personal protective behaviors. Our findings indicate that enforcement health influences onset while individual perceptions risk can negatively affect behaviors, creating feedback loop with increasing results underscore importance considering current severity decision-making processes in implementation interventions. Enhancing our is essential developing effective policy responses preparation future potential epidemics.
