White LEDs have a broad application prospects and market demand, while the red phosphor play big impact on color temperature rendering index of modulated white light. In this paper, series Li2Gd4-<i>x</i>Sm<i>x</i>(MoO4)7(<i>x</i>=0.01-0.13) phosphors were prepared by high solid phase method. The successful doping Sm3+ into Li2Gd4(MoO4)7 was confirmed X-ray diffractometry (XRD) did not result in any change crystal structure. samples detected scanning electron microscope (SEM) as irregular blocky structures with particle size less than 20μm. presence Li, Gd, Mo, O Sm elements energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). photoelectron (XPS) studies showed that activator successfully doped materials. Under 406 nm excitation, emission peaks sample are located at 563, 598, 645 706nm respectively, which caused 4<i>f</i>-4<i>f</i> transition Sm3+and strongest peak comes from 4G5/2→6H9/2 transition. It found optimal concentration is 0.07. With increase concentration, fluorescence lifetime decreases gradually. temperature-dependent also studied. intensity 473 K still 79% 298 K, indicating had excellent heat resistance. CIE chromaticity diagram shows luminescence orange-red region purity (99%). Moreover, LED manufactured using optical phosphor, has coordinates (0.3788, 0.3134) circle Research Li2Gd4(MoO4)7: promising for LEDs.
