The use of parts containing internal channels fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) in maraging steel is gaining attention within industry, due to the promising application material molds and forming tools. However, LPBF processing has issues when it comes unsupported channels, leading defects that can result a limited performance shortened component life. present study aims provide detailed evaluation metallurgical effects arising from printing made 300 steel. results show channel distortion occurs lack support, associated with increased roughness at top part profile caused partial melting loosening powder. Statistical analyses showed significantly affected length. A high level porosity derived was observed region above attributed layer irregularities absence predominance large irregular pores. Residual stresses, always tensile nature, behavior opposed distortion, increasing increases length, meaning higher levels lead an enhanced effect stress accommodation/relief, having similar effect. All these phenomena, however, did not seem affect crystallographic orientation, nearly random texture all cases, most likely energy input used optimized scanning strategy. These findings are vital increase amount paid towards design especially those purpose coolant circulation, since distortions poor surface finishing reduce cooling efficiency defective fluid flow, while have same hindering heat transfer. stress, its turn, decrease life facilitating cracking wear.
