The world’s oceans designated under marine protection have increased recently. Most protected areas (MPAs) target vulnerable, keystone, charismatic, and/or endemic species. In the sub-Antarctic, ocean is associated with oceanic islands, except for MPAs Namuncurá-Burdwood Bank I and II (MPA N-BB; ~53-55°S, ~56-62°W), which are a submarine plateau southern deep slope, respectively. We present first analysis of predator-prey network MPA N-BB, applying topological approach to characterise complexity structure food web identify species’ role. N-BB consists 1788 interactions 379 species, connectance 0.01. Almost half consumers feed at more than one trophic level (0.48), displays small-world pattern (short path length, high clustering compartments). This suggests that ecosystem might be vulnerable perturbations targeting highly connected although some properties provide resilience resistance, resulting in rearranged preserves its original functions. Several species arise as being important functioning response perturbations. Generalist mainly fishes, play crucial role bentho-pelagic coupling should considered relevant energy transfer agents ecosystem. argue diversity including both benthic pelagic habitats, responsible securing connectivity within withstand perturbations, thereby contributing stability

Abstract The Marine Protected Area Yaganes (MPAY) was created in response to the great deterioration that has been suffering ecosystems due environmental crisis is affecting our planet, with aim protect key ocean habitats and species. Located at southern tip of South America, MPAY home a wide variety marine biodiversity habitats, which makes it special interest for conservation subantarctic environments. For first time, we described potential trophic interactions within MPAY, emphasis pelagic realm. We applied both network-level species-level approach characterise structure complexity properties, aiming comprehend dynamics specific roles certain species food web. In terms complexity, web consists 127 658 predator-prey interactions, density 5.18 connectance 0.04. Regarding its structure, around 69% occupied intermediate levels. Keystone Species Index (KSI), highlighted importance some such as Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides), amphipod Themisto gaudichaudii, euphausiids myctophids, among others,

Abstract The corystid Gomeza serrata Dana, 1852, described from Patagonia in South America has rarely been reported and its taxonomy is poorly understood. While superficially similar to G. bicornisGray, 1831 the Indo-West Pacific type species of Gray, 1931, direct comparisons have not recorded. Examination topotypic specimens show that actually a juvenile Peltarion spinosulus (White, 1843), member family Trichopeltariidae. A neotype selected for stabilize taxonomy.
