Abstract. A dataset of 85 Lagrangian surface drifter trajectories covering the central North Sea area and Skagerrak from 2017–2021 17 deployments is presented. The data have been quality controlled, uniformly structured assimilated in a standard NetCDF format. Using appropriate methods presented detail here, currents were calculated position gridded current maps with 0.125° spatial resolution derived. present for first time mean south-eastern observations. Tidal energy spectra analyzed separately southern northern areas Sea, tidal ellipses to determine impact on currents. Significant differences between shallow shelf deeper are evident. Abstract The Marine Protected Area Yaganes (MPAY) was created in response to the great deterioration that has been suffering ecosystems due environmental crisis is affecting our planet, with aim protect key ocean habitats and species. Located at southern tip of South America, MPAY home a wide variety marine biodiversity habitats, which makes it special interest for conservation subantarctic environments. For first time, we described potential trophic interactions within MPAY, emphasis pelagic realm. We applied both network-level species-level approach characterise structure complexity properties, aiming comprehend dynamics specific roles certain species food web. In terms complexity, web consists 127 658 predator-prey interactions, density 5.18 connectance 0.04. Regarding its structure, around 69% occupied intermediate levels. Keystone Species Index (KSI), highlighted importance some such as Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides), amphipod Themisto gaudichaudii, euphausiids myctophids, among others,

Abstract. A dataset of 85 Lagrangian surface drifter trajectories covering the central North Sea area and Skagerrak from 2017–2021 17 deployments is presented. The data have been quality-controlled, uniformly structured, assimilated in a standard NetCDF format (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.963166, Meyerjürgens et al., 2023a). Using appropriate methods presented detail here, currents were calculated position data. Based on deployment Skagerrak, it demonstrated that measurements can be converted into an Eulerian representation by calculating mean current velocities. Tidal energy spectra analyzed separately for southern northern areas Sea, tidal ellipses to determine impact currents. Significant differences between shallow shelf deeper are evident. While nearshore dominated currents, such as record high residual circulation driven high-density gradients. Measurements using approaches remote sensing restricted temporal spatial coverage, particular, capture fine-scale dynamics. For this reason, measurements, large extent, provide new insights complex submesoscale dynamics Sea. Exemplarily, region used demonstrate high-resolution observations both mesoscale small-scale patterns. This unique dataset, entire southeastern offers further analysis possibilities investigation various hydrodynamic environmental issues, e.g., at ocean fronts, determination kinetic eddy energy, propagation pollutants
