Carbon–steel pipelines have mostly been utilized in the oil and gas (OG) industry owing to their strength cost-effectiveness. However, detection of corrosion under coating poses challenges for nondestructive (ND) pipeline monitoring techniques. One is inaccessibility because structure, which leads undetected corrosion, possibly catastrophic failure. The drawbacks existing ND methods increase need novel frameworks feature extraction, detection, characterization corrosion. This study begins with explanations various types carbon–steel OG its prevention methods. A review critical sensors integrated current systems then presented. importance acoustic emission (AE) techniques over other explained. AE data preprocessing are discussed. Several AE-based prediction, reliability assessment models online condition highlighted.
