Integrating family-centered care (FCC) and developmental (DC) principles in neonatal settings may improve neurodevelopmental outcomes for high-risk neonates. However, the combined impact of FCC DC has been underexplored. Good-quality parent-infant interactions have protective effects on infant socio-emotional and behavioral development. These are especially critical for very preterm infants at risk of vulnerabilities related to immaturity. Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) has been found improve mother-preterm interaction behaviors, but few studies exist regarding its benefits when initiated immediately after birth. To determine the effect immediate SSC birth mother-infant quality 4 months corrected age. This secondary analysis used data from Immediate Parent-Infant Skin-to-Skin Study (IPISTOSS), a randomized clinical trial conducted between April 1, 2018, June 30, 2021, 3 neonatal units in Sweden Norway. ABSTRACT Aim To date, studies exploring patterns of fathers' involvement in their neonate's care the neonatal intensive unit (NICU) and barriers to have utilised qualitative approaches, which can be time‐ resource‐consuming. This study aimed explore a surgical NICU using novel tool along with identifying potential facilitators care. Methods single‐centre prospective cohort was conducted at (SNICU). A questionnaire, Fathers' Involvement Questionnaire: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (FIQ:NICU) comprising four sections, developed based on current evidence expert consensus. Study data were collected managed REDCap electronic capture tools. scores are reported for individual items, subscales (Physical contact, Verbal Interaction, During Procedures, Cares/Feeding, Participation rounds), total score (possible range 0–92). Associations between FIQ confidence levels explored bivariate correlation (Pearson's r ). Results Thirty‐two fathers participated. Total FIQ:NICU ranged from 20 74, mean 55.1 (95% interval 49.9–60.2), SD 14.24. Fathers highest level ‘During Procedures’ subscale ( M = 2.88, 1.00) lowest ‘Cares/Feeding’ 1.67, 0.83). All support partner (100%) as facilitator, followed by nurses (71.9%). The most frequently barrier lines tubes neonate (46.9%), work/job commitments (34.4%). Conclusions Support healthcare professionals, psychologists peers increase father's SNICU.
