Over the past two decades, there has been increasing interest in impact of internet use and growing concern about whether problematic (PUI) constitutes an addiction. Despite number studies investigating PUI subtypes, its conceptualization inclusion a classification system have not possible yet. Several models aimed at inspiring clinical research practice proposed mechanisms involved social media, multiple self-report instruments consequentially developed. The diversity theoretical currently hinders standardized assessment procedures across and, turn, their comparability. purpose present overview is to highlight current both order critically discuss existing fragmentation field need achieve conceptual convergence. Two suggestions for future directions are also provided, i.e., define diagnostic criteria by bottom-up top-down processes develop psychobiological hypothesis including description higher-order other psychopathological conditions (e.g., available internet-related cues outcomes that may lead parallel forms associative learning; probabilities obtaining reinforcements; intrinsic motivation processes).

The approach to the vision of TV series has deeply changed in last years, and watching multiple episodes content a single session becomes popular viewing pattern referred as binge-watching. Early studies defined binge-watching potentially addictive behavior showing characteristics similar other behavioral addictions, such loss control pleasure anticipation. This study aims validate short self-report questionnaire focused on assessing determining whether it shows behavior, Binge-Watching Addiction Questionnaire (BWAQ). An online survey was adopted administer general population (N = 1277). Exploratory confirmatory factor analyses assessed both validity structure scale two independent samples. statistical confirmed four-factor model (i.e., “Craving”, “Dependency”, “Anticipation”, “Avoidance”) BWAQ with good psychometric properties. can differentiate between people who adopt maladaptive activities from those use TV-series leisure entertainment activities. Therefore, this may enable researchers improve emerging field research significantly.

Behavioral addictive disorders (BADs) have become a significant societal challenge over time. The central feature of BADs is the loss control engaging in and continuing behaviors, even when facing negative consequences. neurobiological underpinnings primarily involve impairments reward circuitry, encompassing ventral tegmental area, nucleus accumbens striatum, prefrontal cortex. These brain regions form networks that communicate through neurotransmitter signaling, leading to changes individuals with behavioral addictions. While dopamine has long been associated process, recent research highlights role other key neurotransmitters like serotonin, glutamate, endorphins BADs' development. interact within creating potential targets for therapeutic intervention. This improved understanding systems provides foundation developing targeted treatments helps clinicians select personalized approaches.

Abstract The persistent difficulty in conceptualizing the relationship between addictive and other mental disorders stands out among many challenges faced by field of Psychiatry. different philosophies schools thought about, sheer complexity these highly prevalent clinical conditions make progress inherently difficult, not to mention profusion competing sometimes contradictory terms that unnecessarily exacerbate challenge. lack a standardized term adds confusion, fuels stigma, contributes “wrong door syndrome” captures only diagnosing but also treating an integrated manner. World Association on Dual Disorders (WADD) proposes adoption “Dual Disorder” which, while still arbitrary, would help harmonize various research efforts rallying around single, more accurate, less stigmatizing designation.

Abstract Purpose of the Review To provide a systematic review experimental studies concerning cognitive functions in compulsive buying-shopping disorder (CBSD) and to evaluate as supporting or not affective interactions proposed by Interaction Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution (I-PACE) model for addictive behaviors. Recent Findings The results present CBSD mirror findings regarding cue reactivity disadvantageous decision making other behaviors, but they also demonstrate relative lack addressing domains such attentional bias, inhibitory control, implicit associations, Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer. Experimental work on physiological neural correlates mechanisms their interaction is still at beginning. Summary While reasonable number neuropsychological support application I-PACE framework CBSD, future research required systematically examine CBSD.

Abstract Purpose of Review The goal this review is to examine the relationship between impulsivity and interoception in addiction, summarize current understanding topic, identify any gaps knowledge, provide directions for future research. Research Findings Interoception may be a contributing factor impulsive behaviour and, thus, addiction. Substance abuse can negatively impact brain’s ability process interoceptive information reward system, leading decreased sensitivity natural rewards increased drugs. There potential new therapies, such as mindfulness, training, brain stimulation, or vagal nerve stimulation target both treatment Summary Despite growing interest addiction research, further research needed better understand role develop methods studying how individuals with perceive internal bodily sensations.
