Synthetic dyes are widely used in various industries, which inevitably leads to increased water pollution. One of the recognized and waste-free techniques for treatment is photocatalytic purification using semiconductor nanoparticles. However, debate on how properties can be tuned through structural morphological parameters nanoparticle synthesis procedures remains open. In present work, an approach regulate UV-light-driven activity spherical SnO2 nanoparticles different demonstrated first time. Complex characterization was provided physicochemical methods with help computational methods. Special attention paid development a protocol oxygen vacancy accounting within computer calculations more realistic modeling interaction energy between surfaces organic dye molecules natures. The photocatalysis mechanism investigated according developed protocol, including study mixture kinetic degradation, dye-photocatalyst complex formation, ratio vacancies defects. It shown that 93% single decomposed 7 min, degradation real sample from Neva River achieved 60% after 40 min. possible establish this proof-of-concept based combination experimental approaches develop strategy rational design photocatalysts promising samples.
