Abstract The intricate process of shell biomineralization in marine molluscs is governed by a complex interplay regulatory elements, encompassing secretomes, transporters, and noncoding RNA. This review delves into recent advancements understanding these mechanisms, emphasizing their significance elucidating the functions evolutionary dynamics molluscan process. Central to this orchestration are secretomes with diverse functional domains, selectively exported extrapallial space, which directly regulate crystal growth morphology. Transporters crucial for substrate transportation calcification maintenance cellular homeostasis. Beyond proteins RNA molecules integral components influencing biomineralization. underscores nonnegligible roles played genetic elements at molecular level. To comprehend complexity mollusc, we explore origin history primarily secretomes. While some have recently evolved, others ancient genes that been co‐opted toolkit. These undergo structural evolution through rapidly evolving repetitive low‐complexity domains domain gain/loss/rearrangements, ultimately shaping distinctive set characterized both conserved features innovations. comprehensive enhances our levels.

Abstract The C1q protein, which contains the globular (gC1q) domain, is involved in innate immune response, and found abundantly shell, it participates shell formation. In this study, a novel gC1q domain-containing gene was identified from Pinctada fucata martensii (P. f. martensii) designated as PmC1qDC-1 . full-length sequence of 902 bp with 534 open reading frame (ORF), encoding polypeptide 177 amino acids. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) result showed that widely expressed all tested tissues, including formation-associated tissue immune-related tissue. expression significantly high blastula gastrula especially among juvenile stage, most important stage dissoconch located outer epithelial cells mantle pallial edge irregular crystal tablets were observed nacre upon knockdown at pallial. Moreover, recombined protein increased rate calcium carbonate precipitation. Besides, up-regulated 6 h 12 24 after notching. level 48 LPS stimulation h, poly I:C stimulation. hemocytes lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge. These findings suggest plays crucial role both formation response pearl oysters, providing new clues for understanding defense mechanism mollusk.
