State-level differentials in COVID-19 fatality: exploring age and sex disparities in Malaysia’s pandemic experience

Abstract
Issue
COVID-19
has
resulted
in
mortality
worldwide
and
exposed
vulnerabilities
public
health
systems.
Although
countries
have

transitioned
to
the
endemic
phase,
it

nonetheless

state

groups,
four

(January–December
2020,
January–June
2021,

2022).
Principal
component
analysis
(PCA)
uncovered
patterns
produced
a
multivariate
visualization
Malaysia.
Findings
revealed
heterogeneity
identified
several
vulnerable
states,
notably
northern
region
(Kelantan,
Perlis)
East
Coast
(Sabah,
Sarawak).
A
disparity
apparent
Kelantan
as
CFR
among
older
females
higher
than
their
male
counterparts.
Sabah
exhibited
relatively
child
population
2021.
Implication
The
findings
deepened
our
understanding
complexity,
providing
recommendations
Malaysia’s
government
preparing
future
crises.
