Abstract The efficacy of herbal supplements in mitigating heavy metals (HMs) toxicity was investigated using a widely grown fish, the Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ). experiment conducted over two phases: during stress phase, experimental fishes were exposed to sub-lethal concentrations HMs, including lead, cadmium, zinc, and copper for 15 days; following which feeding given 70 days ameliorate their effects. Seven groups established: control negative group (CON−ve), positive (CON+ve, without any treatment), five with supplementation 1% turmeric (TUR), cinnamon (CIN), ginger (GIN), garlic (GAR), mixture (MIX), respectively. A total 315 distributed evenly tanks (15 per tank, triplicates). results revealed that exposure HMs led significant p < 0.05) alterations all tested parameters, i.e., liver damage growth reduction. supplements, especially MIX groups, ameliorated harmful effects restored fish growth, digestibility, carcass composition, health. In conclusion, study demonstrated effective reducing HMs-linked tilapia. Future studies pertaining mechanisms facilitated by various bioactive substances-linked tolerance are warranted.

Heavy metals (HMs) contamination significantly threatens plants, animals, aquatic ecosystems, and public health. HMs’ accumulation in environments has become a serious environmental issue due to their high stability, bioaccumulation, biomagnification properties. These enter ecosystems through both natural sources and/or human activities. The toxicity of HMs poses threat the aquaculture sector’s sustainability by negatively affecting fish growth, reproduction, overall physiology. Exposure various forms can cause damage, which may affect health direct poisoning symptoms or other adverse effects. One such effect is increased production reactive oxygen species (ROS), crucial metabolites that modulate functions pathogenic organisms lead oxidative stress. This, turn, contribute onset exacerbation numerous diseases threaten This review article examines potential organisms, impact this on generation ROS, implications for resulting from consumption contaminated products.

The present study aimed to assess the effects of microplastics (MPs) and metal bioaccumulation on bivalve species Donax trunculus Linnaeus, 1758, Cerastoderma edule (Linnaeus, 1758), Mya arenaria 1758 Mytilus galloprovincialis Lamarck, 1819 from Bulgarian Black Sea coast their adaptive capacity pollution. MPs accumulation in bivalves was observed under a stereomicroscope after 10% KOH tissue digestion. Metal elements (Cd, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb, Zn Fe) soft tissues were measured by EPA-METHOD 3052. pollutants assessed oxidative stress (OS) biomarkers, which spectrophotometrically. all studied but at different ratio, pellets being most numerous (94.7%). accumulated induced OS significantly correlated with indices individual species. principal component analysis suggested that probably leads changes cells similar those caused Pb associated protein oxidation glutathione levels. In conclusion, bivalves, which, turn, activated antioxidant system. This presence potential current ecological state marine environment habitats sublittoral.

This study aimed to assess the pollution levels, sources, ecological risk, and human health risks of metal(loid)s in water, sediment, muscle tissue Prochilodus lineatus Pimelodus maculatus from rivers state Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The content river fish were determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Sediment assessment was carried out geo-accumulation index, contamination factor, enrichment load index. There significant differences concentration values for Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb, Hg. greater tendency elements N, Hg, Co waters Anhanduí River 2020 Cr Pb 2021. concentrations Hg are above permitted limit heavy metal ions drinking water established WHO. metals sediments set Conama/Brazil other countries. very highly contaminated Cd with moderate Pb. All showed a decline site quality, which indicates that it is polluted. Sediments classified severe Mo. Al highest P. relation analyzed. also presence such as tissues species. Therefore, these concern due consumption fish, since there carcinogenic risk related mainly As Cd.
