Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial condition of the ocular surface (OS) characterized by loss tear film homeostasis, discomfort, and vision disturbances. Most available lubricants target aqueous deficiency tear, restoring only this layer, leaving lipid stratum deficient, as occurs in most patients with evaporative DED. An innovative propylene glycol-hydroxypropyl guar enriched phospholipid nanoemulsion (PG-HPG-PH-N) indicated to restore deficiencies both layers film, its composition was designed increase lubricant retention on OS. The purpose study evaluate, through Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) clinical assessment, treatment who had DED due arising from mixed or subtypes PG-HPG-PH-N at reduced frequency twice day, prospective, multicenter, single-arm study. Patients were screened days − 7 0, day 1 (baseline first treatment) 28 lubricant. After visit (screening visit, 0), pre-treatment OS returned their research center 14 for complete including anamnesis, OSDI, corrected visual acuity, breakup time (TFBUT), staining evaluation, tolerability index, environmental exposure questionnaire. Seventy enrolled (60 women, 10 men), mean age 45 (range 27–64) years. TFBUT results showed an improvement stability vital dyes sodium fluorescein lysamine green decrease corneal after treatment. No significant adverse events reported, demonstrating good can be considered safe effective treating deficiency, subtypes. Dry eye disease is a multifactorial condition characterised by tear film instability, hyperosmolarity and ocular surface inflammation. Understanding the epidemiology of dry recognising both modifiable non-modifiable risk factors can assist care practitioners in assessing, treating, managing patients with condition. This review considers current knowledge surrounding its incidence prevalence, as well associated demographic, systemic, ocular, iatrogenic, lifestyle-related factors. Population-based prevalence estimates vary according to diagnostic criteria used define disease, severity demographic characteristics population. Considering recent data variable population demographics, conservative suggest that 10-20% over 40 years age report moderate severe symptoms and/or seek treatment for disease. Dry eye disease (DED) represents a prevalent ocular surface disease. The development of effective nutritional management strategies for DED is crucial due to its association with various factors such as inflammation, oxidative stress, deficiencies in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), imbalanced PUFA ratios, and vitamin insufficiencies. Extensive research has explored the impact oral supplements, varying composition dosage, on symptoms DED. main components these supplements include fish oils (Omega-3 acids), vitamins, trace elements, phytochemical extracts. Beyond well-known nutrients, it necessary explore whether novel nutrients might contribute more management. This review provides comprehensive update therapeutic potential presents new perspectives combination treatment.

Discomfort is one of the leading causes associated with contact lens dropout. This study investigated changes in tear film parameters induced by wear and their relationship ocular symptomology. Thirty-four wearers (32.9 ± 9.1 years, 7 men) thirty-three non-lens (29.4 6.8 12 participated this clinical setting. Subjects were categorised into asymptomatic (n = 11), moderate 15), or severe symptomatic 8). Clinical evaluations performed morning, including blink frequency completeness, pre-corneal (NIBUT) pre-lens non-invasive break-up (PL-NIBUT), lipid interference patterns, meniscus height. Contact had a higher percentage incomplete blinks (37% vs. 19%, p < 0.001) reduced height compared to controls (0.24 0.08 0.28 0.10 mm, 0.014). PL-NIBUT was shorter than NIBUT (7.6 6.2 10.7 9.3 s. 0.002). Significant statistical differences between groups found (p 0.01) 0.05), recording times symptomatic. Long-term use silicone–hydrogel lenses can affect stability, production, adequate distribution through blinking. Ocular symptomology correlates stability both non-wearers.

The tear film, consisting of the aqueous and lipid layers, maintains homeostasis ocular surface; therefore, when disturbed, it can cause dry eye, which affects millions people worldwide. Understanding dynamics film layers is essential for developing efficient drug delivery systems eye disease. Quantum dots (QDs) offer potential real-time monitoring evaluating its dynamics. Hydrophilic silicon QDs (Si-QDs) have already been optimised to image layer film. This study was conducted optimise hydrophobic Si-QDs were synthesised in solution characterised by transmission electron microscope spectrofluorophotometry. fluorescence emission monitored vitro mixed with artificial tears. cytotoxicity assessed cultured human corneal epithelial cells using an MTT assay following 24 h exposure. 2.65 ± 0.35 nm size non-toxic at <16 µg/mL. emitted stable green 20 min but demonstrated aggregation higher concentrations. These findings highlight as a biomarker imaging layer. However, further research on surface functionalisation preclinical evaluations are recommended enhanced solubility biocompatibility surface.
