Buildings constitute approximately 40% of global energy consumption and contribute to around one-third total greenhouse gas emissions. Buried, earth-sheltered, slope buildings leverage the ground's thermal mass conserve heating cooling energy. This review examines modeling performance in earth-sheltered buildings, focusing on temperature profile ground summarizing published mathematical formulations solutions for distribution. It encompasses considerations both earth surface measurements balance at earth's surface. Representative boundary conditions their parameters, including conductivity, heat transfer, radiation intensity, temperature, humidity metrics, are summarized. Efforts model behavior as well soil various depths, using statistical machine learning methods, artificial neural networks, also documented. The further explores conservation location studies, methodology, construction description achieved efficiency, confirming significant role a consequent reduction requirements. Subsequently, daylighting is examined, windows, impact circadian rhythm, architectural such skylights courtyards. A noise aspects considers shielding from airborne ground-borne exterior sources, transmission losses, structure-borne vibrations. Indoor acoustic environments, with measures quality like reverberation time speech transmission, discussed. Sound absorption examined indoor caves, rock-cut structures, underground buildings. Finally, health safety issues refer ventilation, lighting, structural safety. concludes synthesis findings.

This study proposes a concept and workflow for solar, context-adaptive reusable facades. Integrating solar control with parametric facade design, the uses radiation to inform modules variable openness or properties (e.g. frit cover), enabling envelopes adapt urban context changes while promoting circularity. The method was tested through simulations, assessing daylight, glare, energy circularity in changing scenarios. A Solar Circularity Indicator (SCI) introduced track façade alterations reuse. In 100m new obstruction scenario, 79% of were maintained, 29% altered reused, yielding an 85% SCI. Sunlight Autonomy metrics aligned well Re-design improved Spatial Daylight by up 4% minimal increase (<1%). Our solution provided 2% more useful daylight (100–3000lux) than glazed facades 11% less glare. provides framework circular, performance-based designs that preserve aesthetics adaptability.

Research has provided novel insights into how light stimulates circadian rhythms through specialised retinal ganglion cells to the suprachiasmatic nucleus. In addition, there been a revolution in light-emitting diode (LED) technology, leading tunable LED sources and lighting systems, enabling 24-hour dynamic scenarios with bright blue-enriched short wavelength during day dim evening light, stimulating system. These systems are now being implemented at hospitals without adequate understanding of it may affect health well-being patients staff.

This paper summarises findings from two workshops evaluating a series of views in various settings by an interdisciplinary group experts. In the first one (Trondheim, June 2022), ten experts visited and assessed nine rooms. second (Lausanne, 2023), eleven window four spaces. The workshops’ main objective was to develop test multi-method assessments views. During both workshops, participants completed survey that included close open-ended questions about perceived quality room view. Participants also measured lux level, took photographs, made hand drawings view, answered questionnaire their mood environmental conditions room. After workshop, point-in-time daylight simulations were performed for describes, compares, recommends use aforementioned methods depending on type complexity space, evaluators’ professional background, collected data. It discusses overlap estimates preparation time, time spent site, amount work after visit. Finally, it tested application.
