Poly
(3-hydroxybutyrate)
(PHB)
is
a
valuable
biopolymer
that
produced
in
industrial
quantity
but
not
widely
used
applications
due
to
some
drawbacks.
The
addition
of
cellulose
nanofibers
(CNF)
as
biofiller
PHB/CNF
nanocomposites
may
improve
PHB
properties
and
enlarge
its
application
field.
In
this
work,
n-octyltriethoxy
silane
(OTES),
medium-chain-length
alkyl
silane,
was
surface
chemically
modify
the
CNF
(CNF_OTES)
enhance
their
hydrophobicity
compatibility
with
PHB.
functionalization
nanodimension
were
emphasized
by
Fourier
transform
infrared
spectroscopy,
X-ray
photoelectron
thermogravimetric
analysis,
atomic
force
microscopy,
dynamic
light
scattering,
water
contact
angle
(CA).
Surface
modification
OTES
led
an
increase
thermal
stability
25
°C
more
than
doubling
CA.
As
result
higher
hydrophobicity,
CNF_OTES
homogeneously
dispersed
unmodified
CNF,
leading
nanocomposite
better
mechanical
properties.
Thus,
122%
storage
modulus
at
°C,
slight
crystallinity,
melting
processability,
good
obtained
after
reinforcing
CNF_OTES,
paving
way
for
increasing
applicability.

With
the
advancement
of
industrial
economies,
incidents
involving
spills
petroleum
products
have
become
increasingly
frequent.
The
resulting
pollutants
pose
significant
threats
to
air,
water,
soil,
plant
and
animal
survival,
as
well
human
health.
In
this
study,
microcrystalline
cellulose
served
matrix
benzoyl
peroxide
(BPO)
initiator,
while
butyl
acrylate
(BA)
N,N'-methylene
bisacrylamide
(MBA)
were
employed
graft
monomers.
Through
free
radical
polymerization,
cellulose-graft-poly(butyl
acrylate-N,N'-methylene
bisacrylamide)
[Cell-g-P(BA-MBA)],
possessing
oil-adsorbing
properties,
was
synthesized.
