Despite its toxic potential, the treatment of wastewaters generated at veterinary hospitals has been neglected. Thus, this is a pioneering study that addresses effluent through an integrated system composed upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB), anoxic filter (AF), aerobic reactor (AR), thickener tank (STT) horizontal flow subsurface constructed wetland (HFSSCW) and parshall gutter (PG) with hydraulic retention time 10 days. Approximately 5 m³ wastewater produced daily, antibiotics analgesics being most commonly used classes pharmaceutical compounds. Several analyzed parameters did not comply national international guidelines. In context, demonstrated good results, achieving mean removals of: 98% for COD 59% BOD5; 87.5% Total N 44% P; 83.8% 69.9% DOC TDC; 95% 65% Turbidity EC; 78% TDS. The bioassays Allium cepa indicated strong genotoxic potential raw wastewater, which was completely eliminated after treatment. it can be concluded showed promising results regarding investigated considered viable alternative to meet disposal limits established in Brazilian standards, as well significantly reduce their potential.

Hospital wastewater (HWW) is a major source of microbiological contamination, often released into the municipal sewage system without prior treatment. This HWW may contain pathogens with antimicrobial resistance, posing risks to public health. The aim this work was assess associated seasonal release ESKAPE bacteria resistant β-lactam antibiotics and carbapenems cephalosporins through Juárez de México. 12-month variation in β-lactam-resistant bacterial populations assessed five discharge points. Resistant isolates were identified by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) coupled PCR assays search for resistance genes, while β-lactamic detected using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Finally, double-entry Vester matrix constructed classify problems according their degree causality. Seasonal differences loads observed, higher levels warmer months. A wide variety identified, including bacteria, as well emerging carrying β-lactamase-encoding genes. meropenem most commonly, followed cefepime ceftazidime. allowed identification critical clinical environmental scenarios where two points contribute significantly spread contamination. study highlights importance proper management need stricter regulations reduce health impacts.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged and spread globally. Recent studies have also reported the presence of antimicrobials in a wide variety aquatic environments. Conducting nationwide monitoring survey AMR environment to elucidate its status assess impact on ecosystems human health is social importance. In this study, we developed novel high-throughput analysis (HTA) system based 96-well plate solid-phase extraction (SPE), using automated pipetting an SPE pre-treatment system. The effectiveness as HTA for environmental water was verified by comparing it with conventional manual analytical domestic hospital over period two years four months. results combination systems were generally consistent, no statistically significant difference observed (p > 0.05) between systems. agreement ratios measured concentrations methods positively correlated correlation coefficient r = 0.99. These indicate that HTA, which combines rapid, high-volume analysis, can be used effective approach understanding contamination at multiple sites. To best our knowledge, first report present accuracy those wastewater. findings contribute comprehensive environments ecological risks associated antimicrobial-resistant bacteria maintain safety

S-scheme Fe2O3/g–C3N4 heterojunctions were successfully fabricated by the ultrasonic assistance method to remove norfloxacin (NOR) under visible light irradiation. The synthesized catalysts well studied through various techniques. obtained exhibited an optimal photocatalytic degradation of 94.7% for NOR, which was 1.67 and 1.28 times higher than using Fe2O3 g–C3N4 alone, respectively. In addition, kinetic constant NOR removal with composites about 0.6631 h−1, photo-deegradation still 86.7% after four cycles. enhanced activity may be mainly attributed formation built-in electric fields, beneficial separation transfer photostimulated charge carriers. Furthermore, a possible photo-degradation mechanism is described.

The problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is not limited to the medical field but also becoming prevalent on a global scale in environmental field. Environmental water pollution caused by discharge wastewater into aquatic environments has concern context sustainable development modern society. However, there have been few studies focused treatment hospital wastewater, and potential consequences this remain unknown. This study evaluated efficacy inactivation antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (AMRB) genes (AMRGs) model plant (WWTP) effluent based direct ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation provided conventional mercury lamp with peak wavelength 254 nm an light-emitting diode (UV-LED) emission 280 under test conditions which irradiance both was adjusted same intensity. overall results indicated that UV- UV-LED-mediated disinfection effectively inactivated AMRB types (>99.9% after 1-3 min UV 3 UV-LED treatment). Additionally, AMRGs were removed (0.2-1.4 log

Unsafe hospital wastewater is a significant concern, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where the health impact often underreported. Socio-technical systems (STS) theory, which examines interplay between social technical elements within complex systems, widely used developed but rarely applied LMIC hospitals. We employed STS theory to evaluate aspects of treatment (WWT) management Dhaka City, alongside comprehensive assessment WWT processes. mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative (structured-observations) qualitative interviews. Structured observations assessed availability functionality selected conducted 30 key-informant interviews across 13 hospitals, including 21 respondents from government nine private The were cleaners, key professionals, public works department (PWD) engineers. also analyzed relevant reports policies. Among hospitals surveyed, 10 had some form system, while remaining three lacked any infrastructure. Of those with WWT, seven utilized anaerobic baffled reactors septic tanks. Interviews revealed that authorities prioritize patient care medical equipment maintenance over limited understanding among staff regarding WWT. PWD-engineers reported frequent shortages bureaucratic delays, affecting efficiency system repairs desludging. Our study identified gaps use adequate technologies, poor knowledge, many disrepair, leading hazardous liquid being discharged directly into environment. approach highlighted need for policy formulation HWW regulation, leadership, financing, assistance, capacity building. Addressing these issues comprehensively can lead safer more sustainable practices healthcare facilities, ultimately benefiting
