When treating municipal wastewater, nitrogen removal is often limited due to low C/N, which needs be compensated for by additional carbon source injections. This study investigated the feasibility of using industrial-waste polyglycolic acid (PGA) as a denitrification in an SBR obtain economical source. The results revealed that optimal performance methanol-fed activated sludge system was achieved with PGA dosage 1.2 mL/L, pH 7–8, and dissolved-oxygen (DO) concentration 3 ± 0.5 mg/L. Under these conditions, all quality parameters effluent water met required criteria [COD < 50 mg/L; TN 15 NH4+-N 5(8) mg/L]. enhanced variety richness microbial communities, thereby markedly increasing relative abundance major phyla such Proteobacteria Bacteroidota genera Paracoccus Dechloromonas. Furthermore, upregulated expression nitrogen-metabolism-related genera, including amo, hao, nar, nor, improved system. provides reference applying low-C/N-wastewater treatment solid-waste utilization.
