Abstract Background Evidence suggests that access to green schoolyards may facilitate vigorous play and lead increased physical activity, which could improved academic outcomes reduce excess childhood weight gain. Greener can also provide additional outdoor amenities help the community at large. The Little Rock Green Schoolyard Initiative, a program aiming promote learning in two of city’s schools, provides natural experiment evaluate role such interventions. This article presents protocols study plans will be used this community-led initiative on several including sleep quality, use schoolgrounds, perceptions school environment. Administrative datasets assess exposure schoolyard improvements achievement, attendance, disciplinary referrals during elementary school. Methods Data gathered schools where are taking place demographically-matched comparison located elsewhere within School District. collected before, during, after go into effect. Physical activity quality measured using actigraphy. assessed through direct playground observations recess outside hours. During final year study, administrative data assembled evaluated difference-in-differences estimation synthetic controls, causal inference methods from evaluation literature. Discussion is designed new insights design, implementation, playgrounds among schoolchildren, especially those who risk developing severe obesity their years. research herein develop empirical data, elucidate potential mechanisms, practical experience for future policymaking, health services.

Access to greenspace impacts children's physical, social, and mental health. Numerous factors affect access urban greenspaces, often distinct from those affecting the general population, including parental restrictions, limited routine activity-space, particular preferences. Most accessibility measures, however, employ same principles for children a comprehensive exploration of corresponding measures remains lacking. We conduct scoping review workshops with researchers practitioners identify greenspace, synthesize them into conceptual model, assess how existing address these factors. focus on aged 6–11 years old. Our analysis indicates involves trade-off between reachability, determined by route connecting child's starting setting attractiveness, greenspaces adhere child's, their companions', preferences motivations visiting. Safety perceptions are important throughout. Existing predominantly emphasize neglecting personal characteristics motivations. Based our findings, we propose future directions developing child-centered metrics. overview metrics can facilitate decision-making in selection suitable while model foster shared understanding greenspace.

Background: In today’s society, low levels of physical activity are observed in the child and adolescent population, which can cause numerous pathologies, such as obesity mental health problems. Objective: This article aims to compile all contexts scenarios where it is possible increase daily children young people, have significant scientific support. Method. To do so, a literature review was carried out examining four key for intervention: school, extracurricular, family, socio-community. Results: The results indicate that school context, with strategies education classes active breaks, crucial but insufficient on its own, so essential complement interventions socio-community environments. involvement families, access adequate infrastructure parks green areas, responsible use technology, including video games role influencers social networks, presented elements combat sedentary lifestyle. Conclusions: It important highlight importance establishing socio-educational programs adopt comprehensive approach promote youth, highlighting evidence supports effectiveness intervening multiple scenarios. concludes coordinated between different actors (schools, communities) necessary ensure youth reach activity, not only improves their health, also well-being cognitive development.

The school grounds provide students opportunities for respite, relaxation and relief from daily stresses during breaks in the day. However, it is unclear whether secondary schoolyard designs adequately support diverse evolving needs of adolescents, particularly at a time when they are experiencing rapid emotional physical developmental change. To investigate this, quantitative methods were used to explore differences perceptions attractiveness restorative quality based on student gender year level. A school-wide survey was administered approximately 284 years 7 10 Canberra, Australia. Results indicate significant declines quality. Higher ratings likeability, accessibility, personal connection 'being away' associated with male across all levels. Further work needed how environments can better design preferences well-being older female students. Such information would help planners, designers land managers develop that more equitable their benefits different genders

Most studies have measured the distributional equity of outdoor physical activity facilities (OPAFs) considering unified accessible quantity and ignored disparity group availability. This study adopts a multidimensional approach to measure OPAFs from levels city residential units. Considering old Nanjing as sample, we first categorised existing into equipped sites, multifunctional trails quantified size composition three age groups in each unit. Second, modularised OPAFs' services through which service type corresponds one (PA) module identified module's available groups. Third, adopted accessibility, diversity, supply-demand structure consistency (SDSC) at two levels. The results showed that level, gap diversity modules between Group C (60 years above) Groups A (15–59 old) B was more significant than quantity, while mean SDSC for much higher those B. At unit differences availability generated distributing distribution accessibility. Compared traditional assessments, this tool integrates among different measurement, can enhance analytical precision granularity provide tailored OPAF optimisation strategies.
