Perception of Ecosystem Services from Podolian Farming System in Marginal Areas of Southern Italy

Ecosystem services (ESs) are gaining increasing interest among researchers, local communities, and policymakers. The farming of Podolian cattle in the remote marginal areas southern Italy plays an important socio-economic role. This study aimed to assess perception ESs provided by Basilicata region actors stakeholders. Using a questionnaire administered 198 respondents, level agreement disagreement was assessed on 1–5 scale for four main ESs: cultural, regulating, supporting, provisioning. On average, related positive. However, role promoting tourism somewhat controversial, results terms regulation were divisive. provisioning had highly positive result. Considering the territory as an expansive dimension of heritage offers a unique opportunity to promote both conservation assets and development surrounding area. However, often remains isolated from holistic management tourist destinations, failing integrate "living" element. To address this issue, study proposes conceptual delimitation that takes into account services provided by various facilities within space their uses. By analyzing interdependencies between territorial system, inspired ecosystem service evaluation, methodology is applied sculpture "Elogio del Horizonte" in Gijón, Spain.
