Land use change is a key factor affecting habitat quality. To reveal the impacts of urban land changes on quality, this paper uses city Zhongwei, China, as case study. Based data from 1980, 2000 and 2020, PLUS-InVEST coupled model was used to predict assess quality Zhongwei. The results revealed that 1980 areas construction woodland increased by 312.78 127.36 km2, respectively, whereas watershed, grassland, unused decreased 89.86, 666.36, 21.49 respectively. with high low values 25.42% 9.70%, relatively medium 14.81% 7.13%, main factors influencing expansion were precipitation, temperature, population distance government facilities. Other remained largely unchanged. predicted study area in 2040 compared under different development scenarios. A comparison highest value lowest degree degradation possible ecological protection scenario. Although afforestation desertification control projects Zhongwei have proven successful increasing improving their restoration measures not yet completely counteracted adverse effects ongoing urbanization industrialization resulting persistent decline overall

Rapid urbanization and land-use changes may affect the intensity of urban heat islands (UHIs). However, research on eastern Chinese city Yangzhou is lacking. Using land cover data InVest Urban Cooling model, this study evaluated spatiotemporal heterogeneity UHI effect from 1990 to 2020 its socioecological drivers in City. Landscape pattern indices such as patch area (CA), percentage landscape (PLAND), number patches, density, aggregation index were created using Fragstats 4.2 software. Several social indicators, gross domestic product (GDP), night-light index, population considered explore their correlation with indicators. During past three decades, rapid has intensified effect, cooling capacity (cc park) mitigation (HMI) decreasing by ~9.6%; however, mixed air temperature (T air) increased 0.14 °C. The main island areas are concentrated southern Yangzhou, including Hanjiang Guangling districts, have expanded over time. T was positively correlated GDP, density. Moreover, for impervious use type, cc park HMI negatively CA PLAND (p < 0.01). This contributes a deeper understanding dynamics UHIs provides valuable insights policymakers, planners, researchers striving create sustainable climate-resilient cities Yangzhou.
