Abstract Invasions by nonnative insect species can massively disrupt ecological processes, often leading to serious economic impacts. Previous work has identified propagule pressure as important driver of the trend increasing numbers invasions worldwide. In present article, we propose an alternative hypothesis—that are being driven proliferation plants, which create niches for specialists and facilitate their establishment outside native ranges where hosts planted or invasive. We synthesize mechanisms plant invasions, macroecological patterns supporting tight link between case studies having facilitated subsequent establishment. This body evidence indicates that a major invasions. Consequently, benefits limiting spread plants include averting insects spillover onto species.

Plant pests may pose a significant threat to global agriculture, natural ecosystems and biodiversity, causing severe ecological economic damage. Identifying regions more susceptible pest introductions is crucial for developing effective prevention, early detection outbreak response strategies. While historical data on in the European Union (EU) exist, they are typically reported at regional level. This broad aggregation has posed challenge accurate analysis plant health research. study addresses this gap by leveraging existing identify hotspots of within EU UK, through Bayesian hierarchical spatial model. Specifically, we employed Besag, York, Mollié (BYM) model higher risk (NUTS2) incorporating covariates effects consider information from neighbouring areas. The results showed positive effect annual average temperature, precipitation, human population density introduction, highlighting relevance component. Our pinpoints high-risk southern Europe, particularly northern Italy. Additionally, high documented Netherlands contributed its elevated risk. limitations exist due nature data, represents methodological advancement, demonstrating effectiveness models offering robust framework future studies using data. It also provides insights that can inform targeted preparedness strategies, ultimately contributing safeguarding biodiversity UK.

Abstract Urbanization continues to be a major threat biodiversity. The knowledge of local and site characteristics that influence species diversity within cities is importance design manage urban spaces promote biodiversity ecosystem services. While the green for have been studied in detail, matrix has received less attention. We, therefore, role sampling local-scale parameters at different urbanization intensities on bird tree communities during breeding season across city Salzburg encompassing heterogeneity landscape. We found more exotic than native species, however areas with many trees, were dominated by species. Although building cover negatively related richness all scales, increased amount grass cover, number trees smallest, i.e. site, scale. Building also influenced community composition. At larger land (i.e., area) was strongly composition characteristics. Relationships can partly explained species-specific responses as occurrence associated Our study shows unsealed soil, cities, but may require configurations these habitat parameters. Furthermore, avian even high cover.

Monitoring of emerging plant diseases in the Apennine mountains (central Italy) identified Cryptostroma corticale as cause disease sooty bark maple trees. The sites were located rural or forested areas, next to buildings, villages suburbs, and one site was a forest. Samples symptomatic tissues taken from Acer pseudoplatanus and/or A. campestre, well asymptomatic samples campestre Aesculus hippocastanum. All tested positive species-specific qPCR assay for presence C. corticale, indicating wide incidence northern Apennines Italy, after attempted eradication first small group infected plants found 2012.

ABSTRACT Bacterial tree diseases have been mainly studied in agriculture and horticulture. For forest trees, damage due to bacterial is understudied. Moreover, often appear the context of so‐called complex diseases, which are dependent on other factors, such as multiple microorganisms, insects or abiotic factors weaken host. In recent years, outbreaks Xylella fastidiosa Mediterranean region acute oak decline (AOD) United Kingdom, raised awareness trees. this review, we aim summarise current issues available knowledge about trees Central Europe. Furthermore, identify potential pathogens that could gain importance future for central European forests. The methods used were a systematic literature search analysis data collected over last 10 years by Swiss protection service. We conclude that, one side, increase importance, especially considering ongoing climate change. Therefore, community diseased (the pathobiome) needs be more depth understand emergence diseases. On host ranges highly pathogenic invasive genera species, Xylella, need investigated experimentally common species varieties, implement proactive risk management strategies against Finally, urban green spaces should monitored closely, they serve starting points disease forests, similarly emerging pathogens.
