Spatial and temporal analysis of native vegetation coverage for compliance with the New Forest ActCompensation is one forms provided by Brazilian legislation as a mechanism to offset environmental impacts, which allows landowners rural properties that do not meet their Legal Reserve requirements on property, compensate in third-party surplus vegetation.Failure liabilities will result owner being punished administrative sanctions. However, current Act (Federal Law 12.651 / 2012), provides its article 68 owners possessors who carried out suppression before July 22, 2008, are obliged fulfill liability accordance force at time, without sanctions. The complexity interpretation due, example, different concepts about phytophysiognomies contained previous laws, addition difficulty proving historical data relation framework established law, can slow down deficit and, consequently, signature Term Commitment order comply Environmental Regularization Program (PRA), thus increasing transaction costs law enforcement generating insecurity regarding validity chopped documents. This project aims analyze rules demarcation conserved areas prior Act, generate maps past based this interpretation, well Reserve, providing government tools effective implementation PRA State São Paulo.

Global biodiversity is in decline, and businesses society are being required to urgently create new operating models ameliorate the crisis. Among strategies proposed do this, implementing concept of nature positive has captured worldwide attention. Critical its success will be effective collaboration between ecologists businesspeople, driven by a shared understanding key terminology, concepts, risks. Summary Brazilian landowners are obligated to conserve a minimum percentage of native vegetation within their properties (termed ‘legal reserve’), but non-compliance can be compensated elsewhere through biodiversity offset. Recent changes in rules for legal reserve compensation (LRC) have increased the allowed spatial scale and softened ecological criteria required select compensation, potentially leading considerable losses. In this paper, we analyse whether these promote conservation tree species on private lands LRC Cerrado biome, most biodiverse savannah world. We modelled potential distribution 126 simulated several offsets calculate expected losses under former current rules. Our results show that established lead up 100% contrast, setting similarity threshold between watersheds reduce median loss as low 3% prevents with no common sites. Therefore, rule is strongly impact Cerrado. Similarity composition must considered order implement effectively lands.

Restoration of native tropical forests is crucial for protecting biodiversity and ecosystem functions, such as carbon stock capacity. However, little known about the contribution early stages forest regeneration to crop productivity through enhancement services, pollination pest control. Using data from 610 municipalities along Brazilian Atlantic Forest (30 m spatial resolution), we evaluated if young regenerating (YRFs) (less than 20 years old) are positively associated with coffee yield whether a relationship depends on amount preserved in surroundings fields. We found that alone was not variations yields. presence YRF (within 500 buffer) related higher yields when 2 km buffer above 20% threshold cover. These results further reinforce regional influenced by changes biodiversity-mediated which explained mature surrounding argue while fragments may contribute increased connectivity between remnants fields landscapes minimum (20%), older (more years) essential sustaining pollinator enemy's populations. highlight potential time lag at least forests' contributing provision services affect (e.g. control). emphasize need implement public policies promote restoration ensure permanence these new over time.

Defining a reasonable and feasible watershed ecological compensation threshold is the key to protecting functions maintaining sustainable utilization of ecosystems. However, many studies have obtained values that are too high promote implementation policies. This study chose upper reaches Yangtze River as research area, taking water resources closer people’s daily needs evaluation object. Based on InVEST (Integrated Valuation Ecosystem Services Trade-offs) model grey footprint method, for was established. Combined with eco-compensation priority sequence coefficient identification protected areas beneficiary allowed measurement value in 2015 2020. Finally, compare advantages disadvantages different calculation methods, gap between standards theoretical globally. The results showed from 2020, content increased, while decreased. classified were mainly concentrated central-eastern southern parts River, western northwestern parts. mean absolute thresholds each prefecture-level city state ranged 0.43 24.63 billion CNY 0.67 41.60 which close actual values. Among land-use types, conservation service per unit area shrubs highest. lower limit calculated using method amount practice than commonly used opportunity cost method. findings can help improve mechanism region, win–win cooperation among transboundary areas, form harmonious stable green development model.

Introduction To investigate the spatiotemporal evolution of agricultural carbon emissions and absorption, analyse variations in balance, delineate carbon-offsetting regions, formulate low-carbon development strategies tailored to various major functional zones, this study aims promote coordinated regional ecological environmental governance. Methods This takes a perspective based on focuses 17 cities Hubei Province, studies budgets offsets each city from zoning proposes spatial optimization scheme for reducing emissions. Results discussion The results show that both absorption Province gradually increased, although varied significantly among cities. Arable lands were main sinks Province. Overall, exhibited declining core–periphery zonation, with Xiangyang, Jingzhou, Huanggang serving as centre (high emissions) Shennongjia, Enshi, Yichang periphery (low emissions). Carbon displayed U-shaped distribution, high values east, south, west low north. Yichang, Jingmen, peak sink areas. In recent years, coordination between has improved, have become increasingly balanced. Seven carbon-positive, five carbon-neutral, carbon-negative areas identified province. Based these findings, differentiated emission reduction proposed agriculture.
