Protected areas (PAs) serve as crucial elements in biodiversity conservation but are danger of becoming isolated islands human-dominated landscapes. It is related to landscape changes, especially changes land use and cover (LULC). Over the past decades, most research on effectiveness nature has focused mainly PAs, while surrounding PAs key importance for maintaining ecological connectivity biodiversity. Therefore, main objective this study was determine long-term LULC within selected national park Poland its surroundings assess BZ based these changes. We hypothesized that, despite restrictions buffer zone, development intensified increased, nearest analyzed park. For analysis, we Ojców National Park (southern Poland), one oldest parks Poland. before (since 1930s) after establishing BZ. conducted a comprehensive quantitative analysis structure LULC. used historical maps contemporary database. Hillside urbanization currently provides the most economical solution for urban expansion. However, limited attention was paid to characteristics, processes, and patterns of gradient expansion construction land (GEC) in mountainous regions its impact on landscape fragmentation. This study suggests an approach identify GEC quantify spatial fragmentation cultivated ecological land. The results are as follows: (1) can be categorized 'unidirectional', 'bidirectional', or 'multidirectional' expansion, influenced by proportion topography different directions cities. magnitude is correlated with city's economic level. (2) leads increasing trend fragmentation, nearly a three-fold increase arable two-fold within focus areas over 20 years. (3) diminishes distance, primarily influencing 3 km. this provide methodological reference identifying key characteristics GEC, serve theoretical basis reducing risks process development promoting sustainable development.

Understanding the factors influencing vulnerability of forested areas is crucial for human well-being and effective governance ecosystem supply demand. Based on remote sensing data, this study also considered ten natural variables as indexes to explore main that may impact Thies region’s areas. The 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020 satellite image data were processed using ArcGIS 10.6 ENVI 5.1 software. methodology includes transfer matrix approach calculating geographic landscape index describe dominant morphology Furthermore, a mixed linear regression model was built establish connection between potential contributing components. Our revealed led relative fragmentation, with an average 88 patches Aggregation Index (AI), 3.25 Largest Patch (LPI), 2.50 Density (PD), 112 Landscape Shape (LSI) 2005 2020. In addition, indicated loss forestry about −78.8 km2 agricultural land, −127.8 bare −65.3 artificial surfaces. most critical influenced manufactural added value, rainfall (p < 0.05), slope, distance road, sown area 0.001). Overall, investigation has management in region requires understandable assessment. It observed both anthropogenic significantly contribute decline

Rapid urbanization in the Jiangnan Water Network region has resulted degradation of ecosystems and interruption ecological functions. The security pattern (ESP) is crucial for balancing economic development protection within an area. In this study, we focused on a representative Gaochun water network area devised comprehensive ESP methodology. This study combined importance ecosystem services (ESI), landscape connectivity (Con), sensitivity (ESS), starting with analysis sources. Furthermore, both natural human factors are emphasized when constructing resilience surface. Nighttime lighting data (NTL), risk index (ERI), land intensity factor (CI) were used to calibrate resistance values. Finally, circuit theory was applied determine optimal path, width, strategy points corridors. results indicate We identified 39 source areas, 74 corridors, 33 pinch points, 45 barriers. Based this, overall spatial optimization plan “five cores, three patches, belts, multiple points” obtained. aimed explore optimize approach regional characteristics, providing new pathways decision support future construction patterns region.

Although conservation and development are two facets of sustainability, they often placed in contradictory positions. In this context, planning systems able to respond investment pressure, especially countries with underdeveloped institutional solutions for purpose, consequently characterized by a shifting relationship between spatial environmental protection. these issues have been relatively well conceptualized, the literature still lacks more in-depth analyses selected case studies. order fill gap, study aimed identify potential ways protect environment natural values urban areas from pressures less developed systems, based on comparative Polish-Romanian perspective. The method consisted comparing national legal frameworks protection analyzing detail studies each country. findings indicate that is required both ensure effective situated within city administrative limits provide important ecosystem services. There is no single correct or optimal scale for describing spatial landscape heterogeneity. However, since patterns are scale-dependent, using different scales in the analysis may result outcomes, which can affect management options. The main goal of our research was to identify most adequate GIS solution converting vector data raster while keeping continuity linear features and input land cover as detailed possible. In addition, compare database with CORINE Land Cover approach, we used 3 rasterization methods 100- 50-m pixel sizes, first, match geometric accuracy second, calculation results acquired higher-resolution rasterized BDOT10k data. We found that it possible these assess how much resolution selection affected calculations metrics. specific fragmentation metrics differed tremendously when higher resolutions were used, especially custom priority method.
