Abstract Agri-environmental schemes (AESs) play a pivotal role in aligning agricultural practices with environmental objectives, promoting sustainable land management, and conserving biodiversity. This article presents comprehensive synthesis of recent advancements AES research within the European Union context, focusing on ecological, economic, socio-political dimensions. Through systematic review literature published since 2013, we identify emerging trends, gaps, priorities, providing novel insights into effectiveness. We examine factors that influence participation such as biodiversity, habitat fragmentation, ecosystem services. also explore economic influencing farmer participation, including financial incentives, income stability, cost–benefit analysis. Furthermore, investigate dimensions AES, institutional frameworks, stakeholder engagement, trust programme implementation. Key findings highlight need for adaptive management strategies, incentive structures aligned inclusive governance mechanisms to enhance Our underscores importance context-specific approaches account farm characteristics, socio-economic factors, arrangements. Practical implications policymakers, practitioners, stakeholders are discussed, emphasizing evidence-based policymaking iterative learning agriculture conservation.

ABSTRACT Gender dynamics in agricultural sustainability, particularly within the framework of Agri‐Environmental‐Climate‐Schemes (AECS), play a critical role advancing green entrepreneurship. This study explores gender‐based differences adoption and intensity AECS practices among Hungarian farms, emphasising implications for gender equality sustainable development. Utilising Farm Accountancy Data Network panel data from 2014 to 2021, we apply Blinder‐Oaxaca Recentered Influence Function decomposition models dissect disparities engagement between male‐ female‐headed farms. Findings indicate that, while male‐headed farms receive greater subsidies due larger economic scales resource availability, demonstrate comparable levels when controlled these factors. These insights highlight potential gender‐sensitive policies European Union's Common Agricultural Policy empower female farmers entrepreneurship practices. The study's findings contribute broader understanding gender's influence on development agriculture, with significant policy frameworks that support inclusive climate‐resilient globally.

Climate change and environmental degradation present significant ongoing challenges to the agricultural sector. Formal education has been shown equip farmers with knowledge skills needed improve their performance address these problems. However, there is a notable gap in literature regarding comprehensive review of how farmers’ impacts outcomes. This paper aims bridge that by synthesizing results studies exploring role explaining performance. To this end, we conducted systematic existing literature. We organised resulting 127 into thematic groups provide corresponding overviews. Subsequently, vote-count analysis reported direction statistical significance effects associations between observe reporting at variable level rather than overall study may have led importance for specific being overlooked. suggest way variables are constructed can influence studies, leaving open interpretation. The findings requisite evidence base inform development effective policy measures enhance sustainability farming.

Much of the land across European Union (EU) is threatened by unsustainable land-use through intensive farming. To help combat this, Agri-Environmental Schemes (AESs) are provided EU to encourage farmers use a portion their aid with environmental goals such as sustainable farming, bio-diversity or landscape recovery. Farmers in given opportunity take on an AES for monetary payment that based choice scheme and amount dedicated it. If we know can accurately predict which adopt AES, then if intended benefits environment according likely be achieved. As preliminary step, develop generalised linear model coupled microsimulation fed data from Farm Accountancy Data Network uptake. We find able approximately 70% farmers’ decisions whether 27 countries EU. In future, this used predict, example, chosen schemes adopted will lead benefits, changes offered may affect adoption.
