Current status of tertiary healthcare services and its accessibility in rural and remote Australia: A systematic review DOI Creative Commons

The study evaluated the current state and accessibility of tertiary healthcare services in rural Australia. A systematic literature review from 2010 to 2022 was undertaken, utilising databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Google Scholar. PRISMA method employed retrieve an initial total 4,768 papers. Upon removal 2,806 duplicates 1,587 irrelevant records, 1,962 articles were screened. From these, 375 assessed for eligibility, leading inclusion eleven studies review. Criteria exclusion included a focus on primary secondary healthcare, absence peer review, unclear methodology. collective survey 230,339 individuals, focusing access remote areas Australia, reported chosen studies. Several barriers populations identified, including lack informed leadership, inadequate clinical governance, limited awareness modern care models, suboptimal workforce planning resource utilisation, incorrect risk perception, insufficient community engagement. ABSTRACT Background Rural health services have not had the same opporunities for research as metropolitan services. Despite increasing awareness of importance placed‐based led by rural services, there are few examples in literature on how this can be done. Aims In AJRH Practice Insight we aim to provide an update establishment and progress Colac Area Health (CAH) unit. This is a service unit that areas classified MM4‐5 Modified Monash Model. Methods insight. Discussion experience may assist other small or medium‐sized undertake strategic goal building locally relevant place‐based research, along with providing hope those setting out integrate into organisational structures, while minimising burden existing resources. Conclusion demonstrates units their minimal resources alongside support from partners who understand value research.
