Avocado seeds (which are discarded during fruit processing) generate residue that could be utilized in pig feeding. The objective of this study was to test the effects dietary inclusion dried-milled avocado (DAS) on performance, nutrient and energy digestibility, plasma biochemical parameters, carcass meat traits. Twenty-four Landrace × Large White barrows (24 kg body weight, BW) were randomly allocated three experimental treatments: control diet (CO; 18% CP, 1.12% Lys, 14 MJ ME/kg), two diets which 100 or 200 g DAS/kg partially replaced a CO (S10 S20, respectively). Pigs individually housed (22 ± 1 °C), feed water provided ad libitum. Animals weighed weekly individual intake monitored daily. total tract apparent digestibility (TTAD) nitrogen balance determined. experiment ended at 40 BW, when animals slaughtered for blood tissue sampling. Voluntary not affected by addition up diet. However, growth, TTAD, retention depressed highest DAS level. nutritional characteristics longissimus lumborum muscle ingestion. growing pigs used add value waste product.
