Sitophilus zeamais causes significant losses to maize produce worldwide. The use of biodegradable and environmentally friendly botanicals as an alternative synthetic pesticides is increasingly becoming important. Therefore, we sought determine the plant extract formulations manage S. during storage. Crude Zanthroxylum usambarense Warburgia ugandensis stembark extracts were used for contact toxicity repellent bioassays against zeamais. that exhibited highest repellence mortality tested insecticidal activity storage six months. Phytochemical profiles determined using GC-MS, molecular docking active compounds insect target proteins was done. Mortality analyses revealed LD50 values 114.89 µg/mL 197.19 Z. usambarense’s hexane methanol organic extracts, respectively. had 69.25 163.52 µg/mL, Extract achieved weevil perforation index <50.00 in all treatments. analysis showed pesticidal potential several compounds, could be attributed Eugenol (19.28%), 1,8-cineole (5.78%) Linalool (21.42%). have demonstrated their ability suppress development stored utilized protect grains

The antifungal activity and mechanism of rosemary essential oil against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, the walnut anthracnose pathogen, were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), index determination transcriptome technique. results showed that could inhibit growth C. gloeosporioides with minimum inhibitory (MIC) fungicidal (MFC) concentrations 15.625 μL/mL 31.25 μL/mL, respectively. Scanning revealed mycelium morphology became shriveled, twisted, severely deformed after being treated oil. chitinase, which decomposes fungal cell wall components in increased. ergosterol content plasma membrane decreased, while contents including nucleic acids, soluble protein reducing sugar released resulting extracellular electrical conductivity changed. For metabolic activity, enzymes succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), malate (MDH), ATPase ATP whereas phosphofructokinase (PFK) Transcriptome sequencing involves destruction membrane, inhibition genetic material synthesis, division differentiation. are helpful to understand efficacy provide a theoretical basis for development as biological control agent.

Essential oils (EOs) comprise a relevant bioactive fraction from diverse plant sources and vegetable tissues. Their beneficial properties have been mainly related to the presence of molecules such as monoterpenes sesquiterpenes, among others, with against critical issues in food industry that could promote sustainable production beyond organoleptic boosters. This review collects up-to-date information concerning EOs their applications field. In addition, bibliometric analysis was applied scientific intellectual property databases elucidate current technological trends for sector. Thus, on evaluation systems has demonstrated application guarantees safe high-quality foods, they potential partially replace some conventional synthetic antioxidants antimicrobial agents according trends.

A huge number of plant-derived essential oils (EOs) are reported to have lots ethnomedicinal and biological properties with excellent antibacterial activities. Approximately three hundred EOs (ajowan, anise, basil, camphor, chamomile, clove, citronella, coriander, cumin, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, orange, peppermint, thyme oils, etc.) documented under economic class based on commercial pharmaceutical values. However, most active crude their constituents like carvacrol, eugenol, geraniol, linalool, thymol, 1,8-cineole, etc. not found in mainstream drug development modules due low solubility, poor bioavailability, rapid volatility profiles, which reduce potency, half-life, pharmacokinetics achieve the ideal drug-ability profiles. To improve use via nanotechnology, we first gathered more information plant sources, extraction methods, potency mode action, importance EOs. Further, various nanotechnology platforms, such as nanocarriers, nanoemulsions, liposomes, cyclodextrins chemical structure conjugation concept relevant examples were described. Technically, through optimization particle size morphology a platform, enhance without losing any sensitive properties, easily penetrate cross bacterial cell membrane, protect from by coating biocompatible materials, aqueous ensure sustainable release, We hope that detailed analyses platforms will encourage academic researchers antibacterials overcoming inadequate profiles potent agents drugs, food, nutrition, beverages, packaging, materials.

Essential oils (EOs) have been proved as natural food preservatives because of their effective and wide-spectrum antimicrobial activity. They extensively explored for potential applications in industry, substantial progresses achieved. However well EOs perform antibacterial tests vitro, it has generally found that a higher level is needed to achieve the same effect foods. Nevertheless, this unsimilar not clearly quantified elaborated, underlying mechanisms. This review highlights influence intrinsic properties (e.g., fats, carbohydrates, proteins, pH, physical structure, water, salt) extrinsic factors temperature, bacteria characteristics, packaging vacuum/gas/air) matrix systems on action. Controversy findings possible mechanism hypotheses are also systematically discussed. Furthermore, organoleptic aspects foods promising strategies address hurdle reviewed. Finally, some considerations about safety presented, future trends research prospects The present aims fill evidenced gap, providing comprehensive overview efficiently orientate applications.
