The surge in visibility of human rights abuses within the seafood supply chain has propelled scrutiny into sustainability global fisheries, leading to heightened interest social performance companies and questioning obligations States upholding under international law. This review aims bring clarity on where responsibility for ensuring compliance with law lies context fishing industry. It provides a comprehensive analysis legal provisions related fishers, derived from both treaty State practice. To effectively address labor abuses, transformative approach that prioritizes wellbeing workers over profit is needed, involving implementation participatory strategies, empowering cultivation shared responsibility. Despite proactive role played by private sector developing standards, uncovers inherent limitations relying solely certifications protection. study concludes right unequivocally applies primarily responsible enforcement. As enforcement remains challenge maritime context, particularly high seas, burden solutions should rest collaborative effort arena ensure sustainable ethical future seafood.

Abstract To ensure the protection of both people and nature, conservation practitioners have a responsibility to integrate human rights considerations into their policies practices. Here, we (i) develop rights‐based scoring framework for international organization (NGO) policy commitments (ii) use this conduct gap analysis nine NGOs, which collectively contribute approximately $1.86 billion USD annually global budget. While progress has been made, critical gaps remain in certain recognizing local groups' knowledge, particularly around social development decent work, recognitional equity, implement approach principles. Given influence these organizations public discourse, more comprehensive will likely increase compliance with law, drive organizational change, help rebuild trust vulnerable communities.
