The
Post-2020
Global
Biodiversity
Framework
calls
for

by

Whilst
there
is
growing
evidence
that

can
benefit
biodiversity,

from
their
expansion,
we
must
understand
how

impacts

Marine
Protected
Areas
(MPAs)
are
essential
to
reach
the
UN
Ocean’s
Decade
challenges
and
Sustainable
Development
Goal
14

these
MPA’s
no

than

conflicts

We
provide
the
first
global
assessment
of
status
preferential
access
areas
(PAAs),
a
relatively
understudied
policy
tool
to
govern
small-scale
fisheries.
