Abstract The hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (HCH) are long-banned pesticides. Even though their use has been prohibited for decades, presence in the environment is still reported worldwide. This study aimed to quantify trace element concentrations in Arabian scallops (Mimachlamys sanguinea), Natal rock oysters (Saccostrea cucullata), and Intermediate clams (Tivela damaoides). These elements accumulate over time from water, food, sediment, potentially leading toxicity. Specimens were collected coastal waters around Larak Island, processed, analyzed for including copper (Cu), iron (Fe), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), zinc (Zn), vanadium (V), magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), selenium (Se), nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co). The samples ashed, digested, then using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). findings revealed that Fe levels highest T. damaoides, significantly exceeding those M. sanguinea (p < 0.05). Cd higher compared S. cucullata damaoides Zn, Mn, Ni, Pb, V, Co, Hg, Cu, As, Se showed no significant interspecies differences > However, variations noted Mg with showing the markedly more than observed Comparison WHO/FAO standards Pb soft tissues of all three bivalve species exceeded permissible limits, though other metals within safe consumption levels. bivalves safety indicating a potential health risk. emphasize necessity monitoring contamination ensure seafood protect public health.

Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are persistent organic pollutants (POPs) widely used in agriculture and industry, causing serious health ecological consequences upon exposure. This review offers a thorough overview of OCPs analysis emphasizing the necessity ongoing work to enhance identification monitoring these POPs environmental human samples. The benefits drawbacks various techniques including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), chromatography-electron capture detector (GC-ECD), liquid (LC-MS) discussed. Challenges associated with validation optimization criteria, accuracy, precision, limit detection (LOD), quantitation (LOQ), must be met for method regarded as accurate reliable. Suitable quality control measures, such blanks procedural blanks, emphasized. LOD LOQ critical measure efficient quantification compounds, researchers have explored their calculation. Matrix interference, solubility, volatility, partition coefficient influence occurrences discussed this review. Validation experiments, stated by European Commission document SANTE/11813/2017, showed that acceptance criteria OCP analytes include ≤20 % high 70–120 recovery. may ultimately vital determining risk effects exposure formulating sensible public regulations.

Amid the growing concerns about air toxics from pollution sources, much emphasis has been placed on their impacts human health. However, there limited research conducted to assess cumulative country-wide impact of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, as well complex interactions within food webs. Traditional approaches, including those United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), lack versatility in addressing diverse emission sources distinct ecological repercussions. This study addresses these gaps by introducing Ecological Health Assessment Methodology (EHAM), a novel approach that transcends traditional methods enabling comprehensive detailed regional risk assessments across ecosystems. EHAM also advances field developing new food-chain multipliers (magnification factors) for localized ecosystem web models. Employing multimedia assessment toxics’ fate transport techniques its foundation, this extends US EPA methodologies broader range sources. The quantification estimation employs quotient method, which yields an screening (ESQ). Utilizing Kuwait case application methodology, study’s findings data 2017 indicate substantial Kuwait’s coastal zone, with ESQ values reaching high 3.12 × 103 carnivorous shorebirds, contrasted negligible risks inland production zones, where all groups are consistently below 1.0. By analyzing toxicity reference value (TRV) against expected daily exposure receptors toxics, proposed methodology provides valuable insights into potential subsequent populations. present contribution aims deepen understanding health implications lay foundation informed, ecology-driven policymaking, underscoring need measures mitigate impacts.
